Waking up’s the best time of day.
What will I wear, what will I play?
It’s time to think of things to do.
First find my pants and missing shoe.
~
Wipe from my eyes the sleeps last trace.
I’ll brush my teeth, wash hands and face.
My bed’s made, teddy’s on pillow,
But one last hug before I go.
~
To the kitchen, mom will be there,
Making breakfast for us to share.
We chat about things to be done,
Some of it work, some of it fun.
~
Finish dressing put dreams away.
It’s time to start a brand new day.
That’s why waking up is the best.
But can’t do that without your rest.

I saw today my baby’s start
Opened her eyes and stole my heart
~
I saw today her smile at me
We brought her home, safe as can be
~
I saw today her tucked in bed
Gently leaned over to kiss her head
~
I saw today my baby weep
Snuggled her gently back to sleep
~
I saw today my baby eat
Covered from head to little feet
~
I saw today my baby sit
Then fell over in a giggle fit
~
I saw today my baby crawl
Tried to escape down the hall
~
I saw today my baby stand
Holding my finger in her hand
~
I saw today my baby walk
Then soon after began to talk
~
I saw today my baby run
Laughing and screaming, having fun
~
I saw today her surprise art
The wall and it shall never part
~
I saw today she bruised her knee
Climbed too high and fell from the tree
~
I saw today her play tattoo
0n her belly, red, green and blue
~
I saw today her find a cat
Opened the door and that was that
~
I saw today her ride a bike
Though too young to be off her trike
~
I saw today she learned to swim
Tub’s full, splashes over the rim
~
I saw today her play a song
Tiny violin with bow so long
~
I saw today my baby grew
She had to shop for something new
~
I saw today her off to school
Not holding hands, acting cool
~
I saw today she was funny
On the coach napping with bunny
~
I saw today her go to the dance
Just for fun and not for romance
~
I saw today her drive a car
I hope she doesn’t go too far
~
I saw today her graduate
Then off to college, she’ll do great
~
I saw today my baby grown
Off to the city, on her own
~
I saw today her new career
Making art for people to wear
~
I saw today she’s just like us
The best of both, with little fuss

The Beginning
~*~

When I was small, my friend was tall.
Through my window it watched me grow.
Friends always near though winters bare.
Waiting for spring, leaves green, birds sing.
~
Sit in the shade, memories made.
Arms are growing, leaves are glowing.
Branches so high – climb to the sky.
Or ride the swing, picnic to bring.
~
Then soon its fall, colors for all.
Float to the ground – pile in a mound.
Jump in and play, brisk autumn day.
Another year past all sprouting fast.
~
Leaves shake, wind blows, hot days, cold snows.
We’ve stood together in all-weather.
But when I’m all grown, out on my own.
I’ll miss my tree and it’ll miss me.

Pending ending
Time’s descending
But look up must I
The past leaves us grounded
Yet the future’s in the sky
*
Pending ending
Life’s transcending
But look forward must I
Despair is all around
But good does never die
*
Pending ending
Love’s remembering
To never forget must I
Endings pending ever change
And alas must I

Can a poet be a poet with nothing to say?
Can my words be precise when all is gray?
Does the sun ever shine on a gloomy day?
Why don’t lips and hands work the same way?
For to speak what I feel I would dearly pay.
If only to say “I love you” each and every day.

Writing for me is a chapter in a story I’ll see not done.
The beginning a bit sketchy, the middle’s been mostly fun.
A sequel’s now in the works, I can see the volumes begun.
Genre’s chosen comedy drawn, opera unspoken and drama shun.
Yet the covers close on all someday. I hope at the end we won.

May forever’s forever bloom
May our presence never gloom
May your eyes see all truly kind.
May your lips say love is blind
~
May your words rest on my ears
May your heart beat back the fears
May your hands reach, touch and hold
May your mind color all bright and bold
~
Yet May’s may not blossom forever
Nor April and June’s Spring together
May all our seasons forever glow
And may our love forever grow

If you’re in no hurry to go
then I’m in no hurry to stay
I’ll pack up my belongings
and be out by the end of the day
.
You can’t ever keep a job
Or even wash the clothes
Our meals served at the drive-thru
That’s where the money goes
.
The few dollars that remain
Is always spent on ink
The few hours that we share
Always your time to think
.
You lock yourself in a room
There you laugh, scream and cry
While I long for the silence
When one of us will die
.
If not for crumpled notes
Our stove would be always cold
Your hot and chilled emotions
Once steamy have gotten old
.
We haven’t kissed in a week
There’s been no love for a year
I’ve now begun to wonder
If love was ever there
.
Now you say you wrote a poem
That all the world should see
It’s a poem of love and devotion
But this one’s just for me
.
If these words of passion
Are as true as you say
Rumpled sheets await
There’s no need to leave today
.
But if they’re not
as all other times before
My future will unfold
beyond your paper door

At an English peak and the new lost
a short turn’s taken at the gambrels cross.
Trees tall to recall centuries of the past
from carriage path to autos passing fast.
.
Reminiscent a lane with styles to fade
hillside perched and often made.
With a gentle rise to never waiver
our walks through time long to savor.

Burning souls till tears do start

Breezes aloft to venture away
Rudder responds to steer our way
A compass true to guide us home
Anchor moored to no longer roam
The rouges be kept before the mast
Our knot be taut to forever hold fast
It’s you, this phantom on my stormy sea
So please wave good-bye or sail with me

Please stand with me on this well-worn street
We can ponder the many perpetual feet
Walk with me please on a path well known
We’ll bask in its beauty with others alone
*
Please run with me to distant lands
Leaving our souls in warm wet sands
Then leap with me over oceans vast
We’ll discover our future in the past
*
Please sit with me in this quiet place
We’ll etch in our minds each other’s face
Come lie with me atop the cool lush grass
Forever watching clouds and starlight pass
*
Share with me moments the clock hands can’t reach
The wisdom of time we will learn and teach
Wear with me please a simple band of ore
So we may wander together evermore

Love’s just a word we love to use
It’s the poets’ favorite muse
Sprinkles of confetti on pages everywhere
Words parting lips to blow in the air

Yet only love can mend a heart
When suddenly it’s torn apart
And only love can mend a mind
When it’s not treated kind

In our world all are human
Sharing forever whether man or woman
And thus to bond as a clan
As only love can, only love can

The world and I on a different plane
Though destinations are the same
Ticket bought for the morning light
Wasting time till the evening flight

Runaways, both it and I
Grading shades of clear blue sky
Rocks may roll, some may fly
Most just buried when they die

Running late, none’s to blame
The world and I on a different plane

I can’t predict the weather
But I know when it’s hot
I don’t need a blizzard
To know when it’s not

I could feel the wind
Rustling through the trees
When you blew out the door
And left my heart to freeze

Whether or not
There’s a change of mind
The seasons will change
Some are kind

It always seems sunnier
On the other side
The grass is always greener
With vistas forever wide
~
While storms will brew
And come and go
My love preserves
This you can forever know
