My time is wasted yet yours is carefree.
My dreams are of you, but you don’t see me.
I’ve tried to leave, and you tell me to stay.
My heart then aches for another day.
~
You only keep me close to keep me down.
I only see you smile when you see me frown.
You’re a vision of lovely, my mind’s a mess.
I gave you my love and you couldn’t care less.
~
I’m just a possession you wear on your arm.
I turn my back, and you turn up the charm.
Your eyes sparkle when you turn a man’s head.
My fears inflamed in our ice-cold bed.
~
You only keep me close to keep me down.
I only see you smile when you see me frown.
You’re a vision of lovely, my mind’s a mess.
I gave you my love and you couldn’t care less.
~
Our friends know the score, each take a side.
Some say I should run; some say you should hide.
Some say don’t go but all tell us lies.
We know the truth; we both lived the whys.
~
You only keep me close to keep me down.
I only see you smile when you see me frown.
You’re a vision of lovely, my mind’s a mess.
I gave you my love and you couldn’t care less.

dreams
don’t read this
Nearing the pit of the pendulums’ path
Forces of nature care not of their wrath
The weight of the world pivots within
Knows not when to stop or where to begin
~
The highs never reaching a stable peak
These highs too high to which I seek
Delves of darkness seem never to end
Rises resisted rapidly descend

Thus manifested in delusional rhyme
With feathered hand to soar and blind
To my ravenous return in stillness of mind

Shady Chances
The sun’s yet risen and the wait’s begun.
The weather is miserable and not much fun.
Yet here I stand shivering and wet,
desperately hoping I’ll win this year’s bet.
~
Losers are more than winners by far,
but another day’s wages I slapped on that bar.
Chances we take most every day,
so by this hole I’m going to stay.
~
Just a little sunshine is all it will take,
so I look to the clouds, hoping they’ll break.
Will that big rodent peek from their den?
We all know why but no one knows when.
~
Then out pops a head in search of a treat,
as it’s been a long winter with nothing to eat.
But a shadow was seen, so more winter’s to follow.
Now I’m cold, broke and tired and pride I must swallow.

Lucidity
This morning’s poem for you I write,
of lucid visions dreamt in the night.
Images pass of cloudless days,
free of worry, blues or grays.
Our sunsets color an endless shore.
Mornings dance across the kitchen floor.
Hand in hand the future we greet.
Hurdles conquered leapt with four feet.
Two heads balance on shoulders twice broad.
Laughter’s twice loud with joy to afford.
Love’s twice strong with hearts entwined.
My dreams dreamt with you I find.

Habitual
Perfection that’s habitual
Needing more – never full
The pain sharp – the prick dull
Time to numb – time to mull
Eyes cloud, feel the lull
Demons rest in my skull
Safe, blind, brilliant – habitual

Book of Dreams
~
A page from my book of dreams;
a tale of love, or so it seems.
I wake each day the dream doesn’t end.
Will she ever love me or shall I just pretend?
.
Technicolor visions and her scent in the air
Awaken from this dream I could never dare.
Her touch always welcome on my trembling skin.
When she says she loves me, my life will then begin.
.
Encounters of the flesh, too few to ever last.
Music of her voice now echoes of the past.
Sunlit voids surround were daylight once was bright.
Now only darkness brightens our rendezvouses of night.

My Pencil
My pencil in hand – mind set free
Erasing the chains binding me
Safe in my world of poetry
A better friend there cannot be
No rhyme or reason there’s to flee
No shackles of society
No meter of conformity
No question of sincerity
No judge, jury or guilty plea
No door can stop my slender key
I’ll wander through infinity
Another side of life’s journey
Draw lines that know no boundary
Return with words for all to see
Arrange them well – create beauty
Then thank my little piece of tree

Unwritten Sonnet
Thoughts of love, humming notes to an unknown song,
I’ve tried to write it down but the words all came out wrong.
It seems when I think of you all other thoughts go astray.
Emotions and desires jumbled, I can find no words to say.
.
I’ve tried a million times and I’ll try again today,
though time spent together always the better way.
Now pen’s in hand, mindful bliss my heart begins to race,
visions of my fantasy; beauty, elegance and grace.
.
Reminiscent of cascading falls in the jungles of Belize,
the splash of your wavy hair flowing in a summer breeze.
Where rising suns cannot compare to the glow upon your face,
I’m warmed to my very core; the cold has left no trace.
.
With eyes as deep and all-consuming as is the vast Pacific,
their depths so never-ending I can find no phrase specific.
Your subtle lips glistening, a silent language spoken,
still or parted, my semaphore, together I wish unbroken.
.
A brilliance of mind and sharpened wit, a formula to confound
Whilst pure of heart with soulful passions amaze and astound
And when I rest my head to sleep and your image begins to blur,
I envision a ballerina floating through the moonlit air.
.
Touching down on slippered feet, the foundation of my life,
where I’ll dream again of a poem unwritten – for a lovely wife.

Shades of Dark
Sonnets of emotion; love and devotion
Poetry of gloom and despair
Words that swell from within
Seeping doubt and fear
.
Alas the pen will scrape the bottom
Of the well I wish to dry
But brittle, little shards of black
Have crusted in my eye
.
Tears will form, puddles made
And ink again will flow
Pools crinkle up my sheets
The sunrise makes them glow
.
Perhaps today a limerick
A laugh to share with all
Or maybe a teeny tiny Haiku
Powerful yet small
.
The mornings bring answers
Always something new
But as the day brightens
I find I have no clue
.
The sun is high and I am low
Waiting for the night
There I’ll share my world with demons
Where the dark share equal sight
.

Day Anew or Deja Vu
I woke up nice and early,
to start my day off right.
I tip-toed to the kitchen,
to watch the new day’s light.
~
I made myself a coffee,
one sugar but never cream.
The water didn’t boil;
I thought it was a dream.
~
I went back to the bedroom;
I found I was still there.
I slept rather peacefully;
it gave me quite a scare.
~
The cat was also sleeping,
curled up in a ball.
I gave her a little scratch,
she didn’t move at all.
~
I nudged my sleeping wife,
she didn’t make a peep.
I cuddled up beside her,
hoping I’d fall asleep.
~
The cat was first to rise,
soon jumping off the bed.
My wife then too awoke,
turning her pretty head.
~
She didn’t even see me,
as I lay there by her side.
I could see she was awake,
her eyes were open wide.
~
I feared that I was dead,
now a ghost out to haunt.
I gazed into the mirror,
I did look rather gaunt.
~
My wife started screaming,
shaking the sleeping me.
I knew we had a problem;
the evidence’s plain to see.
~
The alarm then started ringing,
time came into view.
I gasped for needed air;
I then started the day anew.

Cookies
Cookies, cookies the perfect treat.
Eat them in shoes, socks or bare feet.
I’ve eaten them in my underwear.
You can eat them nude, if you dare.
Sometime just one, sometimes more,
Fresh from the oven or the store.
I prefer fresh, chocolate goo.
But from a box or bag will do.
There’s no time of the day or night,
When eating cookies isn’t right.
When times are good a cookie’s great.
When times are bad I might need eight.
In the kitchen with mom to bake,
The perfect gift cookies will make.
Cookies soon done and into the car,
Then to grandma’s house, it isn’t far.
That smell of cookies is taunting me,
Under the foil where I can’t see.
But I must wait, we’re almost there.
With bunches of cookies for us to share.
We pull in the drive, rush to the bell.
Running so fast I almost fell.
But I held tight to that plate in hand.
I don’t like my cookies mixed with sand.
My big pile of goodness for us to eat,
Stacked high on a plate, nice and neat.
Mom opens the door, I run right in.
Hugs for all, let the party begin!
The girls dance about in pretty new dresses.
The boys run and shout and make big messes.
When we’re done yelling, screaming and raving,
It’s time to quench our cookie craving.
Then back to the car and homeward bound.
Soon dozing off to a breezy sound.
While thinking of cookies I start to dream,
About a world of cookies and cream.
Cookies, cookies the anytime treat.
Eat them at home or the backseat.
You can eat them everywhere,
On the ground or high in the air.
Cookie rockets go to the stars.
Cookies for wheels on our cars.
I dream of a world of cookie dough.
Freshly baked and ready to go.
Cookies for beds for us to sleep,
We’ll count cookies instead of sheep.
Cookies we’ll roll all over town.
We’ll get some milk to wash them down.
A non-round cookie won’t be right.
Remember the poor gingerbread’s plight.
Cookies not round we’ll call them fakes.
They can all be just biscuits or cakes.
If all cookies where round by law.
We wouldn’t have circles or arcs to draw.
The sun would be a cookie shape.
And big cookie craters on a cookiescape.
A bump in the road made my dream roll away.
I’ll dream another, another day.
Where almost home and I’m glad.
A quiet snack is never bad.
It’s getting late, my day’s almost done,
But one last thing that’s always fun.
In-between the wash, rub and scrub.
I nibble a cookie in my tub.
But I never ever eat cookies in my bed.
You’ll sleep real crumby or so it’s said.
And now it’s time to turn off the light.
Sweet dreams to all and have a goodnight.

Simply Grand
One thousand kisses each morning,
a thousand more every night,
ten thousand more in between,
fulfill our days delight.
~
One thousand thoughts about her,
a thousand dreams I’ve known,
ten thousand days or more,
we’ll never be alone.

“I love you” a thousand times spoken,
thousands more I’ve heard,
infinity is our goal,
any less is simply absurd.

The sun yet risen, the sky yet blue.
Yet my day grows brighter in my view.
A dream begins when I open my eyes.
The truth is seen as she lies.

Truth is felt with a gentle kiss.
She pulls me closer to share the bliss.
I feel her breath, our heartbeats in sync.
Our body’s one, none to think.
~
But if thoughts be had none compare.
A fantasy found, in love we stare.
Temperatures rise in the new dawns glow.
Our senses awaken, whispers flow.
~
Visions guide our pleasures sought.
Tomorrow’s now, time has taught.
Our love given is love received.
And another day we’ve achieved.

gone is the gray.

a path to new.
My rainbow now frames,
a more colorful view.

Poetry for a Lady
Poetry for a lady with much love I give.
I’ll write the unspoken as long as I live.
Mornings for her will be a cause for glee.
For me her glowing smile I long to see.

We’ll talk and we’ll laugh, I’ll record it in rhyme.
Our day will proceed with only one goal,
loving each other, mind, body and soul.

Music to My Ears
Lulled by music without a sound,
sleep arises when feet leave the ground.
The high notes soar, the low notes pound,
harmony’s felt all around.
~
Eyes closed with visions bright,
darkness consumes, and we call it night.
Stars shine with guiding light,
our sun awakens a new day’s sight.
~
Hidden worlds then unseen,
reality just time between.
There’s months of white and of green,
pastel shades fill the scene.
~
Ghosts of the past by our side,
together we travel far and wide.
Upon their wings, how high we glide,
melody’s echo like a changing tide.
~
Life is lived never alone,
spirits follow on their own.
Reminding us what to atone,
joining then when we’re grown.
~
Death’s a part of paying dues,
we only cry when we lose.
The future is for us to choose,
we’re still singing, singing the blues.

True or False
Only a life lived will tell,
who has risen and who fell.
Dreams awaken tomorrow’s path.
Dread assures the futures wrath.
~
Steps taken will get us there.
Impressions left will choose where.
Truth defies the doubts to grow.
Lies define the trust we know.
~
Actions sought will force an end.
Patience found will easily mend.
Seconds wasted will compound.
Time invested will come around.
~
Hate will fester another day.
Love will always find a way.
And wishes will come true.
But the will is up to you.

For every high there’s a low.
Without the rain there is no rainbow.

Pasts haunt and futures feared.

Time is never what it seems.
Joyous am I you’re in my dreams.

Resolute
My buttocks hurt and my knuckles crack.
What drives me forward can drag me back.
My eyes are tired and my head is sore.
My hands are cramped, I can write no more.
~
My pages are filled with useless stuff.
And one more verse is never enough.
Pencils grow dull as does my brain.
But each day silent leaves a stain.
~
Though deep down I know the truth.
The haunt persists from my youth.
I’ve something to say, but what is unclear.
Answers will come but not this year.
~
A resolution needed this time around.
Try harder I must for I am bound.
The calendar says I’m almost there.
Glasses raised a toast we’ll share.
~
A new day begins with much to do.
Sunnier thoughts will eclipse the blue.
A cushion I’ll buy for my favorite chair.
Words will flow like a breath of fresh air.
~
Volumes will fill with the funniest of lines.
A chapter reserved for my sweet valentines.
I’ll rise from sleep as each day’s the first.
I’ll sip my coffee then quench my thirst.
~
Reflecting upon the time long past,
how the future sneaks up too fast.
And if nothing to leave advice I can give.
“Live out your dreams and a dream you shall live.”

sunshine beckons a brand new day.
Alas to find my words are gone,

My darling slumbers peacefully,
awaiting her daily verse.
There my joy’s writ for her to see,
yet I suffer the poet’s curse.

My only wish is to make her smile,
returning the love she’s given.
And to make her laugh for a while,
curse be damned, this heart is driven.

Dreaming Dreams Dreamt
Risen from the depths of gloom and dread,
cobwebs wiped from my sleepy head.
I awoke to a day of bright sunshine.
I looked out the window to see the world was mine.
~
To the bathroom I went to do my thing.
Perched was I as the birdies sing.
I then strode to the mirror and to my surprise;
the bags were gone from beneath my eyes.
~
My hair was perfect with none out of place.
The wrinkles of time were now gone from my face.
I raced downstairs to greet this new day.
I skipped and danced every step of the way.
~
While making my coffee an alarm I heard.
I thought to myself, now that seems absurd.
Next thing I knew I was back in bed,
pulling the covers from over my head.
~
My room was the same, still dark and gray.
Cold and wet was predicted today.
The nightmare passed but the dream still unclear.
But awakened was I to awake with her near.
