Dreaming Dreams Dreamt

Risen from the depths of gloom and dread,
cobwebs wiped from my sleepy head.
I awoke to a day of bright sunshine.
I looked out the window to see the world was mine.
~
To the bathroom I went to do my thing.
Perched was I as the birdies sing.
I then strode to the mirror and to my surprise;
the bags were gone from beneath my eyes.
~
My hair was perfect with none out of place.
The wrinkles of time were now gone from my face.
I raced downstairs to greet this new day.
I skipped and danced every step of the way.
~
While making my coffee an alarm I heard.
I thought to myself, now that seems absurd.
Next thing I knew I was back in bed,
pulling the covers from over my head.
~
My room was the same, still dark and gray.
Cold and wet was predicted today.
The nightmare passed but the dream still unclear.
But awakened was I to awake with her near.

Fluff n’ Stuff

My mind is blank and I don’t know why.
I watched the sun rise in the sky.
I’ve got my pencil and a pad.
The day’s bright and temp’s not bad.
~
The news is filled with lots of stuff.
Some of it’s scary but most just fluff.
Life is good, I can’t complain.
I feel great, I have no pain.
~
I’ve things to do and the list is long.
Or do nothing but that feels wrong.
I’m not too bothered when I can’t write.
I might tomorrow if not tonight.
~
Just a start is usually all I need,
a couple of words to plant the seed.
Then the wheels turn and the page is filled.
Good or bad, again I’m thrilled.
~
So I’ll keep you posted as to my progress.
Hopefully I’ll have success.
But if not, that too is OK.
I’ll say good morning some other way.

Too Much

I’m starting to think my phone’s a crutch.
It’s found in my hand far too much.
I glance at the news every ten minutes or so.
And the weather’s known wherever I go.
~
When I’m bored I’ve got games to play.
And there’s blogs I check every day.
My music’s there with more to explore.
I now have no reason to go out the door.
~
I’ve got mail and text and a video chat.
I could take selfies, but I don’t do that.
But I do like the camera and it’s often used.
Apparently I’m sneaky, or so I’m accused.
~
The flashlight illuminates the darkest of night.
And the calculator’s cool when I want numbers right.
There’s also a calendar to plan out my day.
And a G.P.S. to help guide my way.
~
I could write a story but typing’s a pain.
I could try my thumbs but see little to gain.
I can search the web for whatever I choose.
I’ve got alarms to disrupt my snooze.
~
And there’s more I’m sure but I don’t care,
I kinda wish it wasn’t even here.
Oh and the phone, that’s not used too much,
because I still prefer an analog touch.
~
This poem could go on for days on end,
I could type it all and just hit send.
It might not be finished, but no one would know.
Oh darn it’s ringing, I gotta go.

Poultry Dreams

In the name of man’s greed and chicken feed,
a farmer hatched his scheme to succeed.
He’d create a chicken with numerous wings.
Then, he too, could soar with the like’s kings.
~
Wings sell well but they sell way too cheap.
But if he had more the more he would reap.
He mortgaged his house and sold his truck.
He kept his old dog who brought him luck.
~
His wife kicked him out to sleep in the hay.
The breeding was started the very next day.
Time quickly passed and soon it was a year.
Most thought him a fool, although sincere.
~
With a cock-a-doodle-do he rose with the sun.
The day would be his, full of pride, joy and fun.
He sprinted to the house to fetch his ex-wife,
who had recently remarried to start a new life.
~
They walked to the barn, after some yelling.
The closer they got the more they were smelling.
With the odor intense, the farmer opened the door.
And with one big swoosh his hopes were no more.
~
His most wonderous chickens all flew the coop.
And the poor farmer left with only their poop.
The lesson of course being evolution’s not a race.
And those who disbelieve get egg on their face.

Just Another Thought

Why must I rise so early from bed?
Why don’t the thoughts leave my head?
Why can’t my answers pass the test?
Why do my dreams never rest?
~
Why does every day need a new start?
Why won’t this passion leave my heart?
No, I don’t want to write anymore!
Unless that’s what all this feeling’s for?

A Shot in the Dark

I feel a tale coming on,
from this place I sit upon.
Here or there or hither and yon,
perhaps a tail I shall don.
~
If it be long I’ll wear shorts.
If it be helpful I’ll play sports.
If it’s painful I’ll be in reports.
If made famous I’ll live in resorts.
~
Characters all, we stand in line.
It’s worth a shot, I got mine.
The wait begins for a sign.
And other than fear I feel fine.
~
The story starts when a bug consumes.
The world locked safely in their rooms.
Sharing we will whatever looms.
An end is near, enjoy the blooms.

Dreaming Valentine’s

So is the end of another Valentine’s Day,
all the confetti’s been vacuumed away.
Cards now stored neatly in a special drawer.
Dying flowers are thinned till there are no more.
~
The romantic dinner’s now just a memory.
The dessert was great but sure wasn’t free.
There are two candies left no one will eat,
one’s missing a bite and the other’s no treat.
~
Her dress was stained from wine I spilled.
The rest of the night I thought I’d be killed.
We woke the next morning and she’s still peeved.
But I’m still alive, so I was relieved.
~
I tried to kiss her and she yelled “go away!”
Then she went off about ruining her day.
The whole event gave me a terrible scare.
But all’s good now cos it was just a nightmare.

Rest in Peace

The feeling was eerie and the air was cold.
And luck’s the reason this story’s told.
A misty moon mourned the starless night.
Finger-like branches obscured my sight.
~
A wrong turn made while homeward bound.
The path was new through unknown ground.
The fog grew thicker until all was black.
One misstep and I fell with a whack.
~
I tripped on a stone surrounded by more,
each a marker for a one-way door.
I’m surely welcomed but my time not right.
My eyes then drawn toward the light.
~
In the sky a lone star shone,
in a sea of billions we’re all alone.
Minutes in awe I lay there still,
but to soar with them I never will.
~
Thoughts of freedom filled my head,
but first to my feet amongst the dead.
A hand reached out to aid my rise.
My star consumed to my surprise.
~
A faceless figure was now my guide.
With a yank I was by their side.
My fate’s now held in arms unknown,
tip-toeing through that field of stone.
~
Iron gates clanged for us to follow.
An end perceived I did wallow.
The wind then howled, its piercing felt.
Hale was next with ice to pelt.
~
Each breath shorter, each step less,
each second longer with greater the stress.
Suddenly my companion then mysteriously vanished.
Blindly I pawed for the safety I’d banished.
~
I yelled for help with no one to hear.
To die alone my biggest fear.
A tug at my ankle then sent me running.
Slipping on ice, the fall was stunning.
~
Blurry snowflakes covered my face.
Would I be found here frozen in place?
With one last breath I let out a scream.
And lucky was I to awake from that dream.

Awake

As a child I was longing to see;
those glorious times ahead of me.
The ocean called as did the stars.
Riches I’d have and fancy cars.
~
I’d marry a princess, have lots of kids.
I’ll do all the things that mom forbids.
I’d stay up late and eat lots of sweets.
I’ll sleep till noon on soft flannel sheets.
~
Teen years came, dreams went astray.
I dreaded school and my life in every way.
But off I trudged through rain and snow.
Where I was going I didn’t know.
~
Hair grew long and patience grew thin.
Trouble was found, most from within.
The rage was waning by senior year.
My future was waiting tied to a pier.
~
Adventures were had though not for long.
I did some things I knew were wrong.
The hammer fell then back on the street.
Many days traveled to get home and eat.
~
Dad was displeased, mom’s not surprised.
It was about my time to get civilized.
I rode the bus to work at the mill.
The paychecks earned were never to thrill.
~
My life, I thought, was now just a waste.
Decision made poorly and with great haste.
Dreams of the past seemed now far away.
Would the rest of my life be like today?
~
Options getting fewer, debts soon to grow.
Choices are but two, the time’s now to go.
At that very instant dreams came back in view.
As learning from the past will awaken you.

The Void

~
Bedtime soon and demons shall awake;
but with a soul gone there’s none to take.
The screams in my head scare the spirits away.
Nightmares fast-forward to the light of day.

The ghosts turn white when I yell boo.
And the Reaper can shove his sickle too.
Coz in reality horror lives and fantasy dies.
And sleep‘s just a void behind closed eyes.

Writing Time

I woke this morning to a bright sunny day.
There’s a chill in the air, but that’s OK.
I had a good rest and that’s something new.
But when I check the news I’m sure to feel blue.
~
While writing this poem today I had a novel thought.
I’ll skip the news for now and feel much less fraught.
I’m not irresponsible because I really do care.
I just need some time to live without the fear.
~
My hair is turning gray, but that could be just age.
The time comes for all to turn another page.
A chapter’s surely ending and a new one will begin.
But will it be a tome or a volume very thin?
~
Time will surely pass as it always does.
Will we seek tomorrows or the way it was?
Our story’s now converged, edits now have past.
The final word is ours but we’d better make it fast.

For Sure

I’m not sure of the time,
or the day of the week.
I’m not certain that I hear,
or that I even speak.
~
It seems that I can see,
as the words become more clear.
I’m sure that I can feel,
as I live in constant fear.
~
I’m probably indecisive,
then again maybe not.
I’d like to think I think,
but unfortunately not a lot.
~
Uncertainty is a problem;
it’s something we all share.
I’m not sure you agree,
I’m not sure that I care.
~
There is one thing I do know,
this poem is nearly done.
I’m not sure what comes next,
but the future has begun.

For the Birds

A summer morning lovely,
I dashed out for a walk.
The birds were singing cheerfully,
we all then had a talk.
~
They asked me where I’m going,
I told them I don’t know.
They said they’re not surprised,
that’s how humans go.
~
They’re always going someplace,
not often knowing where.
You’d think they own this planet,
the one we have to share.
~
I feared my life was over,
Hitchcock came to mind.
A war soon was coming,
everything against mankind.
~
I hurried home to safety,
not knowing what to do.
My dog now too looks scary,
gnawing on a plastic chew.

Word Free

Hi, I’m the me you can’t see.
I’m the me that’s stuck in me.
The other me is the me you see.
That’s not the me that’s this me.
~
I know it’s hard to see,
this me that’s the real me.
Is the real me the me you see,
or the stuck me waiting to be free.
~
That’s the me you don’t see.
The other me too doesn’t see me.
That me thinks they’re all to see.
That me doesn’t know me.
~
Other than me the other me is free.
The other me speaks the words of we.
The words of me are only to see,
words of me that set me free.

Day 7

Wow, what a scare I had,
cat’s on the stairs and Fred is mad.
Seems the cat was planning her attack,
so I moved the cage and scratched her back.
~
That was close, way too close for me.
The worst possible scenario I did see;
the cat tore up and the bird flew away.
Fortunately a story I’ve no need to convey.
~
So all’s well and I’ve something to write about.
This recent writer’s block leaves me with doubt.
But I’m on vacation, no worries yet.
When I go back to work, then I’ll sweat.

Day 6

I just got a parrot whose name is Fred.
Though not to worry, no one’s dead.
I’m bird-sitting, I guess you could say.
We’ll sit together for a week and a day.
~
He doesn’t say much, that’s just fine,
I’d teach him some words, but he’s not mine.
He taunts the cats while perched in the hall.
If I opened the cage they’d all have a ball.
~
There’d be feathers all over I’d have to clean.
But I’m on vacation, don’t need a scene.
So far, all’s well, I’ll let you know.
Whoa, a screech, I gotta go!!!

Better Than Nothing

My thinking cap has gone astray.
And I, bewildered another day.
But, at least no work, my day is free.
Perhaps today a poem’s to be.
~
I try to write whenever I can,
was just a child when that began.
Sometimes it flows without a stop.
Then years will pass and all a flop.
~
The flop phase now is where I’m at.
But I’ll keep trying and that is that.
The day’s still young and I’ve still time.
Let’s all hope for a better rhyme.

Why?

Hogarth_fighting2

We work by day and dream at night.
In between we live and fight.
We fight for peace and for love.
We fight to live, we push and shove.

Sometimes we give, sometime we break.
We sometime take more than we make.
We fight for much and for less.
We fight for time to fight off stress.

We’ve fought for us and for them.
We fought for merit and to condemn.
We fight the ills that lurk within.
We fight our demons so we may win.

Yet battles won are never done.
And battles lost are never one.
But still we fight until at last we die.
We’ll fight for breath to at last ask why.

Rainbows and Unicorns

Today I know not what to do.
So I think I’ll try something new.
I’ll color a poem with skies so bright,
with stars that twinkle every night.
~
There’ll be no wars or no hate.
Conflicts solved with just debate.
There’ll be no clocks to dictate time.
There’ll be no violence or any crime.
~
There’ll be no pollution or climate change.
All will be loved, there’ll be no strange.
Peace will be our common goal.
Joy we’ll share from our soul.
~
There’ll be no hunger or disease.
Children will play as they please.
Crayons will be free for everyone.
So let’s get a box and start the fun.

Getting Old

My story today is put on hold.
I’ve snow to shovel in the cold.
This foolish weather’s getting old.
I should move south, so I’ve been told.
~
Fresh air and sunshine’s what I need.
No more boots or coats of tweed.
No more shovels, my winters freed.
But there’ll be no speedo, that’s agreed.
~
What about sunburn, I burn fast,
a lesson learned from my past.
And the bugs, their numbers vast,
hurricanes too are often forecast.
~
I’d miss the autumn with colors bright.
And the pleasant walks on a summer’s night.
Spring of course brings a new days light.
So one more year I guess is alright.

What the Schmuck

With icy fingers and hidden hands,
an unseen face footless stands.
Awaiting the cough of their next guest,
no’s no answer for their request.
~
“Follow me; your time has come,
the path is short, the feeling’s numb.
Two packs a day gives you early admission.
Your time with me is but a transition.”
~
The reaper laughed at their instructions,
fearing not their many abductions.
They said the pain would fade away,
but how long they wouldn’t say.
~
I gasped for breath, not wanting to go.
Why must it be now I didn’t know.
I said I quit the smokes a few weeks back.
“I’ve only a cold so please cut me some slack.”
~
They laughed again at my poor excuse.
Saying my line was long but I choose the noose.
I begged and pleaded to be set free.
They replied that they had a deal for me.
~
I said “that’s great”, not having a clue.
They then told me all the things I must do.
Their list was long but I happily agreed.
I’d now do anything, if to only be freed.
~
They said they’d go but they’d leave a scar.
Then a loud scary cry was heard from afar.
The reaper then vanished and I lay alone,
reflecting on the habits I’m prone.
~
A new day’s begun and life’s the more dear.
The clock’s still ticking but the ends not so near.
I bargained with death but won’t press my luck.
And my future’s now brighter, no longer a schmuck.

Much Ado About Nothing

On a street that shouldn’t be there,
there’s a house that shouldn’t stand.
Its front is covered in thorny vines,
out back a yard of sand.
~
The windows are always open,
cats all come and go.
There’s a dog that barks all night,
it’s really a horror show.
~
There’s an old car in the driveway,
but no one has seen it move.
A radio’s always blasting upstairs,
so someone’s got the groove.
~
The locals all say it’s haunted,
they’ve heard stories all their life.
Newlyweds had once lived there,
but no one had ever seen the wife.
~
Packages and mail get delivered,
but the trash never goes out.
Imagination fills in the blanks,
cos that’s what fantasy’s about.
