Twas the Ale

Twas a fable yet scribed I chanced on a trail

Whilst adjusting lapels on my shiny chain-mail

Running behind by fast falling hail

When caught by surprise by a soon too late snail

Rushing past for the tour of a mighty blue whale

A little boy followed, arms all a flail

Yelling and screaming and waving a pail

Fearing for life, I ratted out the snail

Thus rightly rewarded a tasty round quail

I plucked a plume, it barked a wail

I flew to the pub and grabbed me an ale

I asked of bread, it answered stale

I ordered steak and was given kale

Complained to a waiter who proceeded to rail

Then I was bounced out, back onto the trail

Went in head first and came out on my tail

Now bumps and bruises read like braille

Poking and prodding will always fail

The highs and lows of a musical scale

Whilst the notes remaining  …  twas this tale

Just Another Thought

Why must I rise so early from bed?
Why don’t the thoughts leave my head?
Why can’t my answers pass the test?
Why do my dreams never rest?
~
Why does every day need a new start?
Why won’t this passion leave my heart?
No, I don’t want to write anymore!
Unless that’s what all this feeling’s for?

A Shot in the Dark

I feel a tale coming on,
from this place I sit upon.
Here or there or hither and yon,
perhaps a tail I shall don.
~
If it be long I’ll wear shorts.
If it be helpful I’ll play sports.
If it’s painful I’ll be in reports.
If made famous I’ll live in resorts.
~
Characters all, we stand in line.
It’s worth a shot, I got mine.
The wait begins for a sign.
And other than fear I feel fine.
~
The story starts when a bug consumes.
The world locked safely in their rooms.
Sharing we will whatever looms.
An end is near, enjoy the blooms.

Dreaming Valentine’s

So is the end of another Valentine’s Day,
all the confetti’s been vacuumed away.
Cards now stored neatly in a special drawer.
Dying flowers are thinned till there are no more.
~
The romantic dinner’s now just a memory.
The dessert was great but sure wasn’t free.
There are two candies left no one will eat,
one’s missing a bite and the other’s no treat.
~
Her dress was stained from wine I spilled.
The rest of the night I thought I’d be killed.
We woke the next morning and she’s still peeved.
But I’m still alive, so I was relieved.
~
I tried to kiss her and she yelled “go away!”
Then she went off about ruining her day.
The whole event gave me a terrible scare.
But all’s good now cos it was just a nightmare.

Valentine Wish

I wished to pen a Valentine’s poem.
But time did wander and the mind did roam.
And all the words all used before.
So why just add for the sake of more.
~
I’ve had my chances and my time.
I’ve shared it freely with love and rhyme.
For those written only memories remain.
Hearts once in tune, beat’s not to regain.
~
Direction comes from all directions, but most lost.
And only the ship of fools is love tossed.
Though waves felt profoundly with silence rife,
this day’s not yet over, nor is life.
~
I wish a wish made wishes come true.
I’d wish to make a Valentine, just for you.
But where it sent I just don’t know.
But maybe the wish will end, tomorrow.

Always Sunny Sometimes Funny

Valentine’s Day now is near.
But again I’ve no poem this year.
I find the day a stressful time,
my mind goes blank and I’ve no rhyme.
~
But I do have love and she loves me.
And the day’s still young, so we’ll see.
My pencil’s sharp and coffee’s ready,
the sun now risen, my hands still steady.
~
An hour’s past and words are few;
perhaps a card will have to do.
But just wait, I’m no quitter.
Though a bit lazy and a prolific sitter.
~
So I’ll take a break then try once more.
I’ve enough to say, that’s for sure.
I could write of the things she does for me.
And of the beauty she helps me see.
~
I could mention the way she makes me feel;
each day assured our love is real.
I must also include our morning kisses,
and how she exceeds all my wishes.
~
There’s also the snuggling every night,
and how wonderful she is in the morning light.
And how she makes my heartbeats race,
my worries vanished without a trace.
~
We both laugh a lot, though I’m not always funny.
Her tolerance’s high and disposition’s sunny.
Our future’s bright, what more can I say?
Oh yeah; Happy Valentine’s Day!

Choices

Colors abound, many unseen

Warm, cold and in between

Good, neutral or just plain mean

Perfectly flat or ultra-high sheen

Blackness paints the hue of night

Shades of gray fill the light

Morning comes all is bright

Gaze the sun all is white

Breathe deep, share the haste

Air fresh or full of waste

Seas of warmth or frigid ice

Hairs of decision some with lice

A spectrum of options everyday

Wheels and dials all have their say

Black or white, shades of gray

But choose we must somehow, some way.

The End

Holla Day

Our lives are full of laughter and bliss.
To not be thankful I’d be remiss.
So my gratitude’s shown at every chance.
My emotions stirred with every glance.
~
We snuggle close every single night.
Then snuggle again in the morning light.
With hugs and kisses all day long,
this love we share should be a song.
~
Flowers and candy are no big deal;
our passion’s sweeter and forever real.
And when every day is just like mine,
then every day’s a Valentine.

Ready, Set, Love

With a poem to view and flowers to smell,
candies to nibble and jokes to tell,
I’m ready for this Valentine’s Day,
when love is shared the old fashioned way.
~
I’ll wake her gently with a kiss on the cheek.
Then sneak one more before she can speak.
I’ll say good morning, happy Valentine’s Day!
We’ll snuggle awhile then up and away.
~
We’ll sip our coffee and enjoy the blooms.
And then when we’re done the kissing resumes.
I’m sure we’ll have a wonderful day.
Why would it be any other way?

If life begins at birth we know of no tomorrows.

If life begins at ten we know of no ends.

If life begins at twenty there’s still time a plenty.

If life begins at thirty it’s time to get flirty.

If life begins at forty it’s time to get naughty.

If life begins at fifty it’s getting kind of iffy.

If life begins at sixty, then have yourself a ball.

If life begins at seventy you had no life at all.

If life begins at eighty than you better take it easy.

If life begins at ninety then better you than me.

If life begins at a century it’s a life most never see.

Every days a surprise, every tomorrow’s a bet.

It doesn’t matter where you start, it’s how far you get.

The End

I See

The weekend is upon us,
it’s the first one of the year.
Resolutions will be tested,
will you be sincere?
~
I for one make no promises,
I wish not to lie.
I don’t want to worry or fail,
then to question why.
~
Though just another New Year,
a milestone’s felt.
Hindsight looms large,
pondering what’s to be dealt.
~
I could use improvement,
quite a lot indeed.
Fortunately love’s been found,
fulfilling every need.
~
But if a resolution were made,
I’d make it perfectly clear.
I’d set my sights on positive visions,
since twenty twenty’s here.

Tis a Dali Recollection

Sitting quiet with an empty mug of Dali handled haste

Recollections of past mistakes, lessons not to waste

Bottoms dry, sticky drop sides, lip prints beckon more

Pouring fast without a rinse, that always forgotten chore

*

I pass the sink, I didn’t use, but visions tapped never forgotten

Fondly recalling a baby kitty, who with first glance I was smitten

She was a  tiny ball of ebony fluff that strayed from her mother

Found sickly and shy at a shelter, unwanted by all other

 *

Crusty with kitty litter and boogies I tried to give her a bath

And with a flash and a roar I released a pound of wrath

Water splashed and dishes flew as did my favorite mug

Later to be dissected from a wet and soapy rug

 *

Pieced back askew with frustration, dust, fur and fuzz

Now forever immortalized, better than it was

The glue eventually dried as did a smelly kitty snoozing on my lap

It would come to be her favorite place for a cozy nap

*

The mug still has some whiskers stuck in its bumpy glue

Though with each year passing it loses quite a few

Beloved kitty’s now passed after a long and happy stay

Leaving reminders of mistakes that came to be the better way

 *

Like the tasty sip’s that’s now savored from that Dali-handled mug

While quietly  savoring kitty’s memory with every wobbly chug

*
