Ready, Set, Love

With a poem to view and flowers to smell,
candies to nibble and jokes to tell,
I’m ready for this Valentine’s Day,
when love is shared the old fashioned way.
~
I’ll wake her gently with a kiss on the cheek.
Then sneak one more before she can speak.
I’ll say good morning, happy Valentine’s Day!
We’ll snuggle awhile then up and away.
~
We’ll sip our coffee and enjoy the blooms.
And then when we’re done the kissing resumes.
I’m sure we’ll have a wonderful day.
Why would it be any other way?

Java Java Java

My silent alarm, works every day.

Dreams of coffee wafting my way.

I get up quick to make water hot.

Then longingly watch the drips in the pot.

.

When half way full the process proceeds.

The quest begins for the rest of my needs,

A big cup, of course, some sugar and cream.

And something to stir a new coffee dream.

 .

My brew perks away then perks me up.

There’s nothing better than a second cup.

To sip and to savor and share the sunrise.

The beauty’s doubled with wide open eyes.

 .

I think it’s the drink I drink the most,

Columbian, Sumatra or a dark French Roast.

Whole-bean or ground, instant or drip,

They all taste great from the very first sip.

.

Winter hands on a hot mug are nice.

In the summer it’s refreshing with ice,

Or a flavorful syrup or tasty ice cream.

Chocolate covered beans, better than they’d seem.

.

Coffee’s always dessert after desserts.

But it can stain teeth, pants and shirts.

A treat always perfect to end a long day,

A book, a snack and a decaf, my way.

.

Huddled comfy in a favorite chair,

Sharing the quiet with a loved-one near.

Til pages blur and sleepy eyes meet,

Then goodnight kisses and a last sip that’s sweet.

A Click Away

The poet’s journal’s an open book,
so come on in and take a look.
There are all the emotions to be found,
there’s also thoughts on sight, smell and sound.
~
Pages are filled with love and heartbreak,
with lots more between for give and take.
There’s sunsets galore and sunrises more,
starlit nights and seasons for sure.
~
Sometimes funny, most times not,
it might not be good but there’s a lot.
Bring your glasses and forget the phone,
with a poet to listen you’re never alone.
~
You might be a muse or giver of clues,
I may write a poem about your new shoes.
We’ll sip some coffee in the shade,
the day will end but a friendship made.
~
Our time will be logged with notes on the side,
with a flourish embellished or at least tried.
But if you can’t make it that’s OK too,
it’s all online to be shared with you.

Seconds

Awaiting the sunrise,
starlight fills sleepy eyes,
coffee’s brewing brighter skies.
~
I feel today’s a happy day.
Clearing is the persistent gray.
And spring’s finally on its way.
~
Summer’s next, heart’s to thaw.
The beats of two inspire with awe.
Sunset’s as one an unimagined draw.
~
With a change of hue fall we’ll thirst,
a future’s quenched well-rehearsed.
But I think I need my second cup first.

Night & Day

I rose at sunrise hoping for light.
Solace unfound in the dead of night.
The sky was clear, the outside bright.
Dirty dishes in my sink obscured my sight.
~
Beauty’s framed between the panes.
Life’s contained within our brains.
The past raps our view in chains.
Hearts beat with bloody stains.
~
An hour passed and coffee’s done.
Distracted by clutter there’s no time for fun.
The future surrounds with nowhere to run.
Plans unmade have already begun.
~
Standing still won’t get you there.
Steps taken lead to somewhere.
Dreams awaken wishes to share.
Wishing only dreams awakens a nightmare.
~
Steady ground supports our feet.
Standing tall feels complete.
Second cups ready, I feel the heat.
And a little sugar helps make it sweet.

Buzzed

Out for more coffee for our first meet,
I was typically late, she saved a seat.
I had a bit of the jitters when we did greet.
Her smile sent tingles from my head to feet.
We nibbled on goodies, but she’s the treat.
My cup of tea found and oh so sweet.

Reality

I woke today without a brain
Could be the heat or the rain
Could be the chill or maybe I’m old
Could be work and getting things sold

But as I ponder with coffee nearby
I can see the blue that hides in the sky
It makes me realize all we don’t see
It makes me happy someone loves me

My sweetheart slumbers miles away
But together we’ll be later today
My brain needn’t function to love or feel
And when we kiss these feelings are real
