Easter’s Egging

~*~

The church bell rang and doors flung wide.

We raised our heads and ran outside.

Sitting’s done, now’s time for fun.

Our Easter egg hunt has now begun.

.

It’s a perfect day with bright sunshine.

Our baskets ready we waited in line.

Till all were scattered on the count of three,

in every direction kids ran free.

.

I ran first to my favorite tree.

I found it’s the favorite of not just me.

So off to the hedge where eggs always found,

none’s left there so to the playground.

.

While the others searched I rode the swing.

When they had gone I heard birds sing.

I glanced to the trees and sounds nearby.

Then off jumped I and into the sky.

.

I landed in sand on two feet and one hand,

then a tumble or two and up I stand.

I turned to the fence where tall trees grew-

to search for a prize of an egg or two.

.

The chirps grew louder with each step I took.

Did they tell me to leave or tell me to look?

I kneeled near bushes and peeked below.

I stuck in my hand as far as would go.

.

Feeling around for a tasty surprise,

I pulled out an egg but smaller in size.

Holding tight it felt warm to the touch.

Then I knew why that bird chirped so much.

.

Gently I put the egg down on the ground,

took a few steps back not making a sound.

A whistle blew, the hunt was now done.

But silently I waited in the midday sun.

.

My basket is broken and clothes dirty and torn.

I knew I’d face my mother’s scorn.

But there’s more to life than clothes un-ripped.

There are some events that can’t be skipped.

.

There’s saving the things that you love.

Then a bird swooped down from above

She tapped the shell lightly with her beak.

A tiny head popped out to take a peek.

.

The mom  nudged her chick back into the bush.

Her frightful chirping turned to a shush

Then another whistle blew, louder than ever.

To stay any longer just wouldn’t be clever.

.

I hurried back, joining up with the rest.

Our search was now over finding the best.

My cousin won second, they had four.

I found just one but I think I won more.

Positive Charge

Can love grow every day?
Yes it can I’m here to say.
It starts as a glance, blooms with a kiss.
And thus begins a life of bliss.
~
Hearts beat, each in tune.
Harmony’s struck beneath the moon.
Poetic thoughts flow with ease,
thoughts of passion sure to please.
~
Time has changed for the good.
Our world now feels as it should.
Downside’s nil when the upside large.
And negatives retreat with a positive charge.

Thoughtful

With the rain comes the sun,
for every hardship there is fun.
With the laughter there are tears,
every second shapes our years.
~
With all the sorrow there is joy.
For every girl there’s a boy.
For every day there is night.
The choice is ours to see the light.
~
Hearts beat while unaware.
Music’s made when two’s to share.
Harmony’s felt when both in sync.
And answers found when we think.

P. E.

Passion and enthusiasm, an underrated pair,
age has no meaning when there’s two to share.
Every touch a new tingle and kissing’s sublime.
The universe commanded until the end of time.
~
Days filled with laughter with a lover and best friend.
Evenings like a fairy tale and always a happy end.
The stars shine their light to make our faces glow.
The sun beams its warmth to help our bodies grow.
~
Lives are for learning and teaching all to love.
The lessons we create will make us rise above.
And this world we know could be all the more fit,
if only more P. E. we all would commit.

Love Is

Love is: hugs and kisses at the door,
thinking your mate loves you more,
pleasures of both felt by each,
waiting hands always in reach,
arms that hold and squeeze just right,
dozing embraced till the morning light,
discovering beauty with every move,
every song sharing the groove,
time apart passes far too slow,
time together is all systems go,
troubles fade when the other’s near,
smiles continuous with never a tear,
laughter erupts at the littlest of things,
love is the joy that it brings.

Life is Trying

I got fired from my job for eating French fries.
I had some good reasons but the boss said they’re lies.
I only yelled a little and someone called the cops.
My life got put on hold but the bullshit never stops.
~
I couldn’t find work and couldn’t pay my rent.
So I slept in my car, I didn’t have a tent.
I didn’t have an address, didn’t get my mail.
I missed my court date and almost went to jail.
~
The judge gave me a choice of prison or the service.
Prison was no choice but the service made me nervous.
I made my decision, the Navy was my place.
I wasn’t truly free but had a smile on my face.
~
Things were going pretty well at least for a bit.
Then I got really drunk and caught a rash of shit.
Apparently I said too much to the girl of my dreams.
Turns out she’s a narc, cos nothing’s as it seems.
~
My career ended there and I was back out on the street.
I had to do something just so I could eat.
By chance I found a carwash whose owner’s never there.
I spoke with the manager with issues that we share.
~
I spent my days getting dirty cleaning others’ gloom.
I didn’t like the job but it paid for my room.
Then I got my GED and was ready for a change.
I enrolled in junior college but the kids all seemed strange.
~
I didn’t quite finish but I did learn to learn.
I found what we do best are for things we truly yearn.
I wanted a big house, so an architect I would be.
But I couldn’t get the money to earn that degree.
~
I settled on drafting and those two years served me well.
I finally saw a future beyond my life in hell.
Life could be no better, found love and raised a child.
The world blossomed before my eyes until it all went wild.
~
Agony drained my beautiful wife.
Her eyes closed and ended our life.
In the shadows of sorrow I wished for an end.
My long upward spiral was now a downhill trend.
~
Several years have passed and the future again looks bright.
I count my many blessings each and every night.
Time can slip away but I’ve got none left for crying.
And if to ask why it’s that I’m truly trying.

Springling

Baby’s first spring blooms with joy.
There’s grass for sitting and nature’s their toy.
There are leaves to touch and bugs to see,
flowers to smell and the buzz of a bee.
~
The sun is warm and the sky is blue.
A breeze tickles toes where once a shoe.
Daring they get and start to crawl.
They chase the cat chasing the ball.
~
Mom gets it first and giggles they share.
She tosses the ball high in the air.
Little eyes get rubbed, its naptime soon.
Then there’s lunch on a spring afternoon.

To Be Forever Spring

***

If a painter I to be,
filling life with discovery,
penning sonnets with oceans green,
there to paint an endless sea.

Or if an explorer I am to be,
quills soaring high and free,
dancing in fields of clover green,
there to ponder what yet to foresee.

Perhaps a poet I to be,
painting rainbows in hues of glee,
paper mountains yet printing green,
there stars aglow gaze back at me.

But a simple man confused I be,
feeling love am I as you can see,
gazing endlessly into eyes of green,
there my heart knows for her I be.

Everyday Holiday

With Valentine’s Day now over,
it’s time to think of clover.
The reds have left the room,
now’s time for greens to bloom.
~
Soon Saint Paddy will have their say.
And everyone’s Irish for that one day.
We’ll all feel lucky and have great fun.
Our joy will be shared, all as one.
~
Like the four seasons the clover has four leaves.
And luck too will change as one believes.
While some things are real, some we choose to see.
And like a Valentine nothing’s ever free.
~
The winter soon will end, spring’s almost here.
Summer and autumn will complete our year.
Though another year older we’re a bit more wise.
Think every day a holiday but without the lies.
~
Share a toast with someone new.
Pick a flower for a special few.
And show your love to all your friends.
Then our holidays will have no ends.

Cool

A warm winter day,
snows melting, Spring’s on the way.
Good or bad, let’s play.

Lukish

Work’s a place to go;
when you can’t afford better,
or work is your life.

Heated

When left in the dark,
Most people will light matches.
Then it all burns down.

The Wounded and the Whys

My time is wasted yet yours is carefree.
My dreams are of you, but you don’t see me.
I’ve tried to leave, and you tell me to stay.
My heart then aches for another day.
~
You only keep me close to keep me down.
I only see you smile when you see me frown.
You’re a vision of lovely, my mind’s a mess.
I gave you my love and you couldn’t care less.
~
I’m just a possession you wear on your arm.
I turn my back, and you turn up the charm.
Your eyes sparkle when you turn a man’s head.
My fears inflamed in our ice-cold bed.
~
You only keep me close to keep me down.
I only see you smile when you see me frown.
You’re a vision of lovely, my mind’s a mess.
I gave you my love and you couldn’t care less.
~
Our friends know the score, each take a side.
Some say I should run; some say you should hide.
Some say don’t go but all tell us lies.
We know the truth; we both lived the whys.
~
You only keep me close to keep me down.
I only see you smile when you see me frown.
You’re a vision of lovely, my mind’s a mess.
I gave you my love and you couldn’t care less.

Always Free

~*~

I tried to force a poem today.
But poetry doesn’t work that way.
Seems all my words are kept at bay.
Thoughts simply sculpt what hearts convey.
With wheels unturned can’t play with clay.
That doesn’t mean my mood’s cold and gray.
Or that my feelings for you have gone astray.
Flourishes flounder, neigh to stay.
Gladly “I love you” I can always say.

Soft and Hard

Valentine’s day is tomorrow, what am I to do?
Candy’s getting old and it’s to cold for the zoo.
Flowers too soon wilt and never will surprise.
Dinner’s always nice, but no burger, shake and fries.
~
Jewelry’s too expensive and ends up in a drawer.
Lingerie’s always fun when it ends up on the floor.
Romance will be expected, so don’t forget the card.
Valentine’s day is tomorrow, it shouldn’t be so hard.

Broken Arrow

A healer of wounds or point to maim,
cupids draw’s reluctant of aim.
Bow’s untied but the bind pains,
the arrow pulled but the blood remains.
~
I close my eyes and the future’s blurred.
I call her name but none is heard.
I feel her touch when I’m alone.
A smile returned no longer shown.
~
My head still turns tho now a twist.
My heart still beats tho now half missed.
And this Valentines I wish not to start,
for a hole filled makes not a whole heart.

Forever Valentine

Cupid’s precise with arrow and bow,
eyes tear as these words flow.
Emotion’s flood from every pore,
love’s felt to my very core.
~
Heart’s beating our lives song,
all’s been noted and nothing’s wrong.
We’ll paint our future clear and bright.
The darkness past now filled with light.
~
Our canvas is large with more to grow.
Our vision’s grand and we now know,
I am hers and she is mine,
now to each a forever Valentine.

Winter’s Warmth

The air is cold and the sky is gray.
It’s time again for Valentine’s Day.
Lips are warm and soon to be kissed.
It’s a winter’s day not to be missed.
~
Flowers found to make the day bright.
Candy presented to each share a bight.
Hands are held and everything’s fine.
Happy Valentines, will you be mine.

Becoming Becoming

Valentine’s Day is coming,
it’s time to make a plan.
Get those wheels turning,
show her you’re her man.
~
Perhaps a romantic dinner,
the dishes then are done.
Then take her dancing,
you’re sure to have some fun.
~
Don’t forget the flowers,
some candy and a card.
Leave yourself a note,
it shouldn’t be that hard.
~
Treat her extra special,
stare into her eyes.
Tell her you’re the luckiest,
and she’s the grand prize.
~
Tell her that you love her,
show her in every way.
Make her your Valentines,
each and every day!
