Ten, Nine, Eight …

Much surprised by the calendar today.
Valentines’ is less than a month away.
I’ve thoughts to think and things to buy.
There’s flowers and candy, gladly no pie.
~
I should be ready; it comes every year.
A showing of love to make things clear.
A poem’s expected and that means stress.
My pencil’s dull and my mind’s a mess.
~
The time is short, and my list is long.
I’ve much to do and can’t be wrong.
I love to write but when I choose.
When I’m forced I get the blues.
~
That’s much like life, at least for me.
I’m at my best when I’m free,
sharing a life with my best friend.
We’ll laugh and love until the end.
~
She makes my life a joy to live.
So something special I’ll need to give.
These next few weeks won’t be much fun.
Then again, I might be done.

Everyday Special

The groundhog’s soon to wake, but I don’t really care.
I’m always warm and cozy any time of year.
Winters always pass and spring will always follow.
Summers heat the flesh, autumn the vibrancy we all know.
~
Nights share their endless stars, days our lives are bright.
Time’s just the space between. The universe knows what’s right.
Friends and family fill our needs, puts our minds at ease.
A special someone shares it all and all that we please.
~
Mine’s lovely in the morning and more beautiful by noon.
Evenings’ she’s truly stunning beneath the glowing moon.
She’s innocent when sleeping, a little naughty when she’s not.
And I am overjoyed with this special love we’ve got.

Stress Test

A poet’s life should bear no stress.
But once a year’s OK, I guess.
It’s the only day that I truly fear.
And Valentine’s Day is growing near.
~
It’s the only day when something’s expected.
And a bad poem that day may be rejected.
So I show her my love in every way.
She’s awakened to kisses every day.
~
Flowers not often but she likes the surprise.
I love to see the joy in her eyes.
I tell her she’s lovely, my beautiful queen.
And that she’s the star on my big screen.
~
Hugs are many and poems not a few.
After all, it’s what I supposedly do.
But today I’m stressed as the day is near.
I expect something special for my beloved dear.
~
So alone I sit with pencils all ready.
My mind’s jumbled but my hands are steady.
I think of the love she gives to me.
And that she’s the one I long to see.
~
The hour grows late, now time for a rest.
I’ll awaken tomorrow and be at my best.
I’ll hold her close and nibble her ear.
And I’ll try not to worry about one day a year.

Martyrdom’s Thorn

The dreaded day is coming,
it makes the poet cringe.
Their ink is overflowing,
all the world will binge.
~
Heartfelt words sculpted,
sent to loved ones who are dear.
Stress is soon to peak,
the deadline’s growing near.
~
“I love you” bought and sold,
drug stores sell out fast.
But first the prediction,
then the shadows cast.
~
Winter winds still blowing,
heat’s felt in the heart.
The pressure now’s building,
for another Valentines’ start.

Get the Lead Out

Letters we’ve sent, letters we don’t,
some we regret and some we won’t.
Some we forget, some we obsess,
some move forward, others regress.
~
The future will tell what we choose,
what we keep and the things we lose.
We’re in charge but not always sure,
some will quit while others endure.
~
Love it seems a double edged sword,
piercing the heart where life is stored.
Push too hard and the feelings gone,
though properly placed in we’re drawn.
~
Staying sharp we all can agree;
brings out the best in you and me.
Sharpen your pencils, grab your pad,
connect the dots and you’ll be glad.

Whip It Up

While watching TV like a slouch,
love can be made on the couch.
Or while eating tacos in candlelight,
or an extra kiss when saying goodnight.
~
Bad breath be damned, it’s the sunrise,
I kiss her cheeks till she opens her eyes.
Good morning’s shared and our day’s begun.
We need no plans cos everything’s fun.
~
We’ll relax in PJ’s, our hair a mess;
we’ll sip some coffee until we dress.
Smiles are traded with every glance.
But I smile less when she puts on her pants.
~
Laughter’s abundant with the joy we’ve found.
Our harmony’s felt with every sound.
Yes, love can be made most anywhere.
Just two things needed then blended with care.

Lucidity

This morning’s poem for you I write,
of lucid visions dreamt in the night.
Images pass of cloudless days,
free of worry, blues or grays.

Our sunsets color an endless shore.
Mornings dance across the kitchen floor.
Hand in hand the future we greet.
Hurdles conquered leapt with four feet.

Two heads balance on shoulders twice broad.
Laughter’s twice loud with joy to afford.
Love’s twice strong with hearts entwined.
My dreams dreamt with you I find.

Forever Surprised

Nights of passion, mornings of bliss,
sparks reignited with another warm kiss.
Sunlight beams through winter skies.
The heat is felt in loving eyes.
~
The day then begins skin to skin.
Temperature’s rising from within.
Whispers welcome our plan for the day.
The outside’s cold so cuddled we’ll stay.
~
Hours pass with laughter and love.
The sun now glows from high above.
With one more kiss we’ll both then rise.
The sunset awaits and perhaps a surprise.

Morning Magic

Another blank page looks back at me.
Dreams now sleep and the sun’s to see.
My love slumbers a flight away.
When she rises I’ll start my day.
~
I long to see her glowing smile,
I smile back and stare awhile.
A kiss is next and our day’s begun,
our mornings together always fun.
~
We sip our coffee and chat a bit.
Work is looming but little’s writ.
Minds now settled and thought’s clear.
Then the page fills with love we share.

Pop Eyes

Tho my pages may be numbered,
the funny’s unencumbered.
Cos I yam what I yam and you’re my sweet potato,
couldn’t be none sweeter that I’ll ever know.
~
I got no can of magic greens.
Ain’t got no bag of magic beans.
I sure ain’t got no knock-out punch,
but under this cap I’ve got a hunch.
~
With anchors weighed and pipe aglow,
sunset’s waiting, our past in tow.
A compass points to where forgot,
destination’s chosen, dockets not.

~
A course set to forward the future leads the way.
Tomorrow’s story’s drawn to us, colored by today.
And I yam what I yam and you’re my sweet potato.
So let’s open these hearts and see where we’ll go.

Together

Nose to nose and cheek to cheek,
hip to hip our passion’s deep.
Eye to eye we always see.
That I love her and she loves me.
~
With every touch warmth is felt.
Whispers shared, our bodies melt.
Lips meet and hands hold tight.
Sunshine ends our restful night.
~
The days begin with spirits high.
Outside we linger beneath blue sky.
We plan our day and time free.
When together we’ll be her and me.

Vacation

Toys are broken, now back to school.
Christmas is over, mom said that’s cool.
She rushed our breakfast packing our lunch.
My brother made faces, I gave him a punch.
~
He threw a banana, it hit mom’s head.
She spilled the milk, her face turned red.
Our dog ran in to save the day.
He licked up the milk and wanted to play.
~
We gave him some scratches and a treat.
Then mom tied shoes too tight on our feet.
We put on our hats, mittens and coats.
Mom packed our bags with books and notes.
~
We walked to the bus stop to meet our friends.
The bus pulled up and our vacation now ends.
The parents all smiled and waved goodbye.
Then home they went for some needed shut-eye.

Happy New Year

I woke today, the sky bright and clear,
a most pleasant way to start a new year.
The air, though cool, my coffee’s hot.
The world though tense, I’m gladly not.
~
With little reason to complain or whine,
my only resolution is to appreciate what’s mine.
And soon I’ll wake with a kiss my most dear,
a most pleasant way to start a new year.
~
She’ll awake to a smile and a loving embrace,
my future seen in her glowing face.
I’ll whisper thank you for the happiness we share,
a most pleasant way to start a new year.

The Yearly Dump

I woke today, yippee ki-yay.
I rushed downstairs to welcome the gray.
A little rain won’t make me blue.
It’s New Year’s Eve and I’ve much to do.
~
Resolutions are needed, more than a few,
but first a cup of my favorite brew.
The aroma awakens my primal needs.
My pad awaits my list of good deeds.
~
I’ll be less lazy and help pluck the weeds.
I’ll write about something everyone reads.
I’ll be nicer to friends and all others.
I’ll treat everyone like sisters and brothers,
~
I’ll respect this world as fathers and mothers.
I’ll throw a big party if given my druthers.
I’ll try to eat better and not get too plump.
I’ll waste less time perched on my rump.
~
I’ll smile more and not be a grump.
I’ll speak more kindly and be less of a chump.
I’ll say “I love you” every single day.
And I’ll start this New Year the very best way.

Imagine Resolution

The dawn of a new year,
its light yet to shine.
Seconds unresolved,
awaiting times’ design.
~
The future shares no clues,
the past our only guide.
Imagination moves us forward.
Darkness is where we hide.
~
Fractions divide realities.
Dawn varies on this sphere.
When your sun arises;
imagine a peaceful new year.

A Holiday’s Warmth

In the land of the dragon when nights get long.
The air is cold and the wind is strong.
In caves they’ll gather all cozy and warm.
But first, they’ll prepare before the big storm.
~
The holiday’s near and another year’s treat.
Moms and dads busy to make all things neat.
The children make dangles to dress up their tree.
Then off to slumber for a week, two or three.
~
Their parents when done with winter chores,
warm their homes and open their doors.
The children then wake to a new winter’s white.
And gaze at trinkets secretly left in the night.
~
There are mittens and hats for the littlest of tikes.
There are goodies galore that everyone likes.
The grown-ups all share a warm hearted kiss.
Then hugs all around that’s never to miss.
~
The teens await the greatest gift of all.
They’ll soon learn to fly or tumble and fall.
But the new snow’s now deep and oh so soft.
It’s perfect for landing when not high aloft.
~
When the sun gets low and the chill sets in.
Homeward they head for the feast begin.
They’ll all sing and dance and sip warm sno-nog.
The night then ends with the last burning log.
~
Eyelids grow heavy, eyes soon to close.
Socks pulled snugly over big chilly toes.
Hibernation then starts and dreams it’ll bring,
where thoughts are warm awaiting the spring.

Weathering Christmas

‘Twas the day after Christmas and all through our town,
the snow had all melted leaving grass colored brown.
New sleds with bows all waited out back.
New hats and gloves all piled in a stack.
~
The weather was warm but the sky a dark gray.
Bikes too must wait for a sunnier day.
Then rain fell heavy just after lunch.
The wind started blowing, mom had a hunch.
~
She gathered the candles and charged her phone.
She called up her parents who were home all alone.
We then jumped in the car, our mission was clear.
We’d drive to their house to bring Christmas cheer.
~
The wind grew stronger, ripping branches from trees.
We saw a strange man in a puddle on skis.
We got to their house, the decorations still lit.
We all rushed in but there’s no time to sit.
~
Gram packed a few things and was ready to go.
Gramps starred out the window wishing for snow.
We squeezed in the car for our long journey home.
Then gramps yelled “Stop! I’ve forgotten my comb.”
~
Gram said “Keep going, you can use mine.”
Gramps, with a smile, said “That’ll be fine.”
Then sis started crying, a bathroom was needed.
“Hurry up mom” she anxiously pleaded.
~
Mom said to wait; there’d soon be a chance.
“If not” she joked “you can soon try new pants.”
Sis got the message and quietly she pouted.
“I have to go too,” Gramps then loudly shouted.
~
Mom kept on going, our street was now near.
But the driving was slow, the weather severe.
Our house then appeared but the driveway was gone.
So mom stomped on the gas and drove up the lawn.
~
We jumped from the car and ran to the door.
Dad was there waiting, looking unsure.
We took off our coats and hung them to dry.
Then lightning went boom and lit up the sky.
~
The lights went out but our fireplace was warm.
We all huddled closely to ride out the storm.
We woke the next morning all stacked around our tree.
Our presence was felt and the day was rain free.

Tomorrows Start Today

The morning’s young, the night is past.
The time is now but it’s going fast.
Awaken now from your peaceful rest.
Today’s the day to start your quest.
~
Risen with the sun all will grow.
Though paths oft long, journey’s often slow.
With eyes toward the future, feet on the ground,
heart beats guide to destinations found.
~
Relish each moment without delay.
Thanks to be given along the way.
Share the joy with all you meet.
Tomorrows, then we’ll gladly greet.

Just Dessert

I’ve had my fill, now I get cake.
And a warm embrace when I awake.
I’ll have a dozen kisses, oh so sweet.
Or maybe thirteen for a bakers’ treat.
~
The frosting I’ll save until the end.
And I’ll share it all with my best friend.
We’ll enjoy it fresh and then make more.
Forever nourished, that’s what love’s for.

Thankful Beginnings

I started to write a love poem but it had no end.
As the love I’m now feeling surely will transcend.
If only to imagine tomorrow’s blissful ways,
the sun will shine inside and out the remainder of our days.
~
Smiles and laughter fill our time with kisses in between.
Some good natured guidance shared, but never ever mean.
Together we’re always playful, never do we fight.
We’d rather be making love; morning, noon and night.
~
We contemplate the sunset sipping our evening tea.
We’ll cuddle in bed later while we watch late night TV.
We wake up every morning snuggled together as one.
We’re thankful for each other and the new day we’ve begun.
