Only One

Pinks and grays and powder blue,
like the snowflake, there are no two.
Dusky times do surely amaze,
as slowly they fade in a purple haze.

Starlight brightens till morning light.
Day’s awakened the futures in sight.
The sun will set and blanket the blue.
And like the snowflake I’ll melt with you.

Division Decision

Since the beginning of time a field did feed.
Animals galore found all they could need.
Millennia’s past and all stayed the same.
Then one day a farm family came.
~
Centuries past and the farm family grew.
The field divided and then there were two.
One side raised sheep and the other was tilled.
Crops soon prospered and bellies were filled.
~
Decades followed as more homes were built.
The farms disappeared without any guilt.
The moral being that time does divide.
And when time runs out there’s nowhere to hide.

The Chill is Gone

A roof-top garden above us all,

trees now blossomed, the sky made small.

Morning’s crisp with color’s bright.

Bees and butterflies dance in flight.

~

Fragrant florals enhance the scene.

Whilst songs of birds fill between.

A busy squirrel hides their lunch.

All to be nurtured, I’ve a hunch.

~

Grassy patches catch the sun.

Warmth is felt where winter’s none.

Spring is here with glory and grace.

Smiles return to a once chilled face.

Pen and Folly

I’m taking a break from this pen and folly,
as my words of late have not been so jolly.
The spring is here and the flora’s in bloom.
Why should I wallow locked in this room?
~
I can’t spend my days writing alone,
I can’t watch more news or play with my phone.
My body needs movement and my brain needs repair.
So I’m going outside to enjoy the fresh air.
~
But not to worry, I’ll be back soon,
perhaps inspired by a beautiful moon.
Enough is enough of the weeks’ melancholy.
The weekend is here and I hope pen and folly.

Dawns’ on Me

The sun has risen, a poet’s alone.
He‘s perched on a porch,
atop his worn throne.

The birds whisper clues,
of nature’s good news.
And words start to flow.

At the top of the stair,
my love dreams there,
awaiting a kiss on her cheek.

Eyes soon to open,
we both will see,
this day has bloomed for she.

That’s It

Hello world, how do you do?
I’ve got a little something to share with you.
The sun has risen and the day is new.
But what comes next I’ve not a clue.
~
I’m sure you’re feeling much the same,
though to be confused there is no shame.
Mistakes get made, we share the blame.
Wouldn’t it be nice if life were tame?
~
Imagine the place this world could be,
if all could live both safe and free.
Think of the wonders we’d all see.
See you tomorrow, that’s it for me.

Forgotten Peace

Peace is free but war is not.
Values burn and soon forgot.
Life’s the goal or so is told.
But talk’s cheap and death is gold.
~
Peace is free, fingers crossed.
Once caught worries tossed.
Savings saved and tucked away.
But safety ensured by others sway.
~
Peace is free so why not?
Prides delusion never forgot.
Hands of few guide the masses.
Feet of all climb the classes.
~
Peace is free, what’s the cost.
Friends made and pennies lost.
Keys are many, eyes in the slot.
Peace is free but we forgot.

Acme

Acme is the place we all want to be.
It’s the pinnacle and the entire world’s to see.
It’s where our flights of fancy are flying free,
anvils no problem with the power of we.
~
A peek at our peak we imagine and seek.
Up and down in waves we speak.
Whether yacht or dingy, they all will leak.
And my day’s high point is to kiss your cheek.
~
Now back to acme before I wander too far.
It’s the place that sets the bar.
Most won’t get there with just a car.
But our match is won, no need to spar.
~
Optimally positioned to spend time with you,
our love’s a summit seen by a few.
And with you I’m at my apogee,
that’s why you’re the acme for me.

Just Because

My machine is broken on this cold winter’s day.
I woke up early but I’ve nothing to say.
My pad looks lonely with no words on it yet.
So I looked out the window for inspiration to get.
~
But the sky is gray and the snow is brown.
And the hour’s too early for any action in town.
The birds are still nested and the squirrels asleep.
The cats are about but not making a peep.
~
My world is quiet, silence is heard.
My vision is clear but my thoughts are blurred.
So I look at the news, but nothing’s good there.
So alone I sit on my old kitchen chair.
~
Something will come, it usually does,
I don’t know the reason so I say it’s because.
Because, because is the answer we give when we’ve none,
so that’s all for now because I’m done.

Please

The sun’s now high, the night was long,
and the urge to rise is growing strong.
Weary eyes open to a day that’s new.
Yesterday’s past when choices few.
~
Life, it seems, is full of turns.
Seconds wander the watchful learns.
Tomorrow’s imagined now in sight,
the fog clearing, and the future bright.
~
Optimism wanes when pessimism gains,
the pressure builds within our brains.
Awaken now to a time at ease,
enjoy this moment, if you please.

Short and Sweet

I started the day in the usual way.
But life was soon to change.
The sun rose as everyone knows.
Then set to a feeling that’s strange.
~
Blind to the notion of this surge of emotion,
quickly I rushed to my pad.
My scribbles were new and for now but few.
And soon they’ll be signed as Granddad.

Between a Rock and a Soft Place

If you’re having manopause a guynecoligyst you must see.
They’ll gently cup your stuff and ask you how you pee.
It should come as no surprise, it happens when we age.
There’s little cause for worry and no need for any rage.
~
As we all grow older things will begin to move.
Sometimes things won’t work even when we’re in the groove.
The pain at times can rightly get us scared.
But if the boys were gone you know you’d feel weird.
~
If you just felt a twinge your time is soon to come.
But if you feel anything it’s better than being numb.
I know I’m not a doctor, but I know one thing for sure.
To keep the golden nuggets, wishing is not a cure.

Summer’s Lost

Spring is nearly over and summer’s almost here.
The beach we’ll soon visit but don’t forget your gear.
There’s sunscreen for your skin and a hat for your head.
And don’t forget the mask to hide the look of dread.
~
You’ll need a little lunch and extra water too.
Bring toys for the kids so they’ve something to do.
Go home and disinfect all the things you’ve brought.
Then long hot showers so no bugs are caught.
~
Relax a bit; go to bed and dream of doing more.
But wait at least two weeks just to feel sure.
The summer’s short and soon it will be done.
Let’s hope by the fall we’ll have a bit more fun.

Glad Sad

I haven’t written much of late, my brain has been askew.
I search the news constantly seeking something new.
The summer is upon us and the birds sing with glee.
I’m not sure if they’re happy or just teasing you and me.
~
While we were trapped inside the wildlife had its way.
But soon we’ll be back out and ruin their perfect day.
The roads were nearly empty with few planes overhead.
The plants bloomed on schedule and the animals all well fed.
~
Their air was a bit cleaner and the noise was nearly nil.
And while they frolicked peacefully we tested our will.
This poem is nearly over as I watch the cars pass by.
I’m glad we’re almost normal now but for the animals I will cry.

Freedom or Choice

I woke today and the world was new.
What was normal is now askew.
Trapped in the house for weeks on end,
I’ve borrowed time but none to lend.
~
Rules have changed but habits not.
A little space is now a lot.
Smiles once shared now go missing.
Waves are fine, but please, no kissing.
~
Looking out; cars drive by.
Looking up; I see blue sky.
Looking down; I see two feet.
Looking in; I fear the street.
~
Tensions eased but not its force.
I need escape but not remorse.
Masks mask the pressure we face.
Hopefully patience wins this race.
~
The time will come when now is past.
That day’s coming, I hope I last.
But to be sure I’ll just stay home.
Perhaps tomorrow again I’ll roam.

Optimisery

Weeks slipping by, time’s running out.
Life’s shut in the outsides in doubt.
The vibe of the day’s now on mute.
Videos sought for anything cute.
~
The outdoors greening, flowers in bloom.
The house’s dust free, yet still a tomb.
The future’s awaited with joy and fear.
Normality’s coming but when’s not clear.
~
Day’s getting longer, the sun’s less bright.
Nights give respite, dreams take flight.
Tomorrows will come and none too soon.
May may be good but if not then June.

In the Dark

A brother and sister went for a walk.
They laughed out loud and had a talk.
Time flew by as they hiked the trail.
They sat for a break but their lunch was stale.
~
The shadows grew long as the sun sank low.
Which way was home, they didn’t know.
With all seeming lost there’s no place to hide.
If light’s to be seen they’ve only stars to guide.
~
Paths disappear beneath feet unseen.
Hands reach out for some space between.
The sounds of night are now loud and clear.
Eyes open wide seeing nothing but fear.
~
Imagination filled their weary heads.
The siblings now dreamt of their cozy beds.
But attention’s gone when fantasy’s there.
The pair separate and nightmares they share.
~
Shrieks and howls soon filled the wood.
The children screamed as they should.
Hours melted and death was thought.
Then a flashlight seen and home they’re brought.

The End

Silver Linings Gold

I woke today to see the sun,
to watch it rise my day begun.
But the clouds got in the way.
So I’ll have to wait another day.
~
But life goes on as it should.
I wouldn’t change it if I could.
A day of gray won’t get me down.
I’m alive, so I can’t frown.
~
A start is good, but to finish is best.
The time between is just a test.
We make the grade when we rise.
And see the world through others’ eyes.
~
The dawn was brilliant somewhere for sure.
And sunny thoughts will warm the pure.
So today I write in the dimmest of light,
surely better than endless night.
~
I’ve seen the dark as many do.
Ups and downs are nothing new.
But clouds do part and linings exposed.
So I’ll save the gloom till my eyes stay closed.

Infusion

It’s been a few days without a love poem writ.
The pencil’s working but I’ve run out of wit.
The words will come, but I know not from where.
I could try to force it, but I don’t dare.
~
Autumns felt and change underway,
adjustments are made every day.
But know one thing; my love won’t wane,
for you’re now infused with my body, soul and brain.

Our Time

The clock’s ticking, our time is near.
My heart beats louder, soon she’ll be here.
Hugs await and we’ll chat of our day.
Work’s done now time’s our way.
~
Gentle kisses between laughter we share.
Loving eyes show each other we care.
The sun will set, to paradise we’ll go.
Entwined we doze beneath the stars aglow.

Love and Death, Life and Breath

The universe dark when afraid,
atoms pulse and bonds made.
The voice within will rise and fall,
a poet’s obsession is defining all.
~
Heartbeats heard of passerby,
all’s to feel or question why.
Understood or criticized,
words writ, spoken or surmised.
~
Eye’s see truth and tell no lies,
somewhere, always are bright blue skies.
To write of life is to ponder death.
To be loved is sharing breath.
