Broken

The switch broke, lights went out.
Now I sit alone in doubt.
Morning comes, eyes stay shut.
The feeling’s gone in my gut.
~
Hours pass with no refrain.
Only mush fills my brain.
My body’s weak, pain is strong.
Life is short, death is long.
~
Lips parched, breathing slows.
Numbness reminds of fingers and toes.
Into the light my soul roams.
Blood consumes yesterday’s poems.
~
Silence heard with no heartbeat.
Time knows no defeat.
If tomorrow I shall see,
a better person I will be.
~
If a poet when I rise,
this world anew before my eyes.
Nothing lost is nothing gained,
only regrets leave us stained.
~
Second chances are often rare.
Today’s success is meant to share.
The past gone, ends unknown,
cherish all you have grown.

None Today

~

There’ll be no daily sonnet today.

Thought has wandered and gone astray.

Nimble quill won’t dance on parchment bare,

seducing lonely on table near.

The well is dry from which I must drink.

Chair is empty were journeys to think.

No inky tears shed, blotted or smeared.

No blackened hands bloodied and feared.

Letters scrambled all over my mind.

Their chosen order I cannot find.

Brittle wax puddle proves candles death.

The darkness swallows my daylights breath.

Blindness shackles a masked and heavy head.

I shrink into my unwanted bed.

Heart and soul content for tomorrow.

When ink, I hope, once more will flow

Wish No Squish

Another year’s gone by too fast.
But the birthday stress now has past.
I had too much cake and coffee too,
had a party and stepped in poo.
~
Perhaps an omen or maybe not,
or a reminder of things forgot.
Crappy stuff happens every day.
And we often slip along the way.
~
Yesterday being our only prep,
surprises await with every step.
Life can stink as we all know,
but sometime wrapped with a bow.
~
My shoes now scraped, no damage done.
My time ahead I’ll wish for fun.
I won’t let aging make me sad,
the alternative being really bad.

Almost There

Almost sixty, though I’m not quite there.
But I’ve learned some things I’d like to share.
First; get up early and watch the sun rise.
Then the world will get brighter before your eyes.
~
Indulge your passions whenever you can.
Allow yourself time and have a plan.
Make others happy and they’ll do the same.
Accept your mistakes when you’re to blame.
~
Give freely your love and never resist.
Make the most of life’s many turns and twists.
Take note of the bad but never complain.
Look for the good and don’t dwell on the pain.
~
This list could run on but I’d rather not preach.
Though it’s always important to learn and to teach.
So just one more thing before I go;
If you’re in love, be sure you let them know.

All Right

Hurry up it’s getting late,
the morning’s nearly past.
I missed today’s sunrise
and the roads are filling fast.
~
It’s not that I’ve a place to go,
or anyone I need to see.
I just like the early morning time,
it’s when my mind is free.
~
I prefer to write at first light
and be ready when my darling wakes.
She’ll sip a coffee and read her poem,
with a couple of kissing breaks.
~
Our day then starts happily
and continues through the night.
Then we’ll snuggle once again
and know that all’s alright.
~
Whispers we’ll share and more kisses too,
until our eyelids weigh.
We’ll dream about each other
and yet another wonderful day.

Between a Rock and a Soft Place

If you’re having manopause a guynecoligyst you must see.
They’ll gently cup your stuff and ask you how you pee.
It should come as no surprise, it happens when we age.
There’s little cause for worry and no need for any rage.
~
As we all grow older things will begin to move.
Sometimes things won’t work even when we’re in the groove.
The pain at times can rightly get us scared.
But if the boys were gone you know you’d feel weird.
~
If you just felt a twinge your time is soon to come.
But if you feel anything it’s better than being numb.
I know I’m not a doctor, but I know one thing for sure.
To keep the golden nuggets, wishing is not a cure.

Everlasting

Wedding bells were ringing, tolling strong and loud.
My nephew walked the aisle, standing tall and proud.
His bride by his side, smiles from ear to ear.
Her excitement is quite evident, her feelings are quite clear.
~
First exchanging vows, then a kiss shared.
Their devotion’s on display, truly now declared.
The future is their beacon, a new family’s cast.
Their eyes tell the story of a love to last and last.

A Click Away

The poet’s journal’s an open book,
so come on in and take a look.
There are all the emotions to be found,
there’s also thoughts on sight, smell and sound.
~
Pages are filled with love and heartbreak,
with lots more between for give and take.
There’s sunsets galore and sunrises more,
starlit nights and seasons for sure.
~
Sometimes funny, most times not,
it might not be good but there’s a lot.
Bring your glasses and forget the phone,
with a poet to listen you’re never alone.
~
You might be a muse or giver of clues,
I may write a poem about your new shoes.
We’ll sip some coffee in the shade,
the day will end but a friendship made.
~
Our time will be logged with notes on the side,
with a flourish embellished or at least tried.
But if you can’t make it that’s OK too,
it’s all online to be shared with you.

Awakened

I woke today a poet, dreams now in view.
The sun’s soon to rise on a world truly new.
My eyes open wide, heart beats on high.
Senses all a tingle, colors fill the sky.
~
Birds spread their joy, they sing me a song.
Their sounds inspire feelings pure and strong.
A cat sleeps on a table-top, seemingly unaware.
My darling’s soon to wake, morning we will share.
~
Thoughts and emotions again will flow.
Hugs and kisses let us both know.
The future is beginning when we rise.
Our time is surely now, why compromise.

To Write

towrite

To write of birth is a one-sided view

To write of the past when all is new

To write of life when opinions are plenty

To write of youth that ends at twenty

~

To write of joy is to write of grief

To write of pain is of no relief

To write of boredom is to never be bored

To write of lust like sports is scored

~

To write of love is to love first

To write of hate your mind will burst

To write of fear the fearful not dare

To write without fear is to write without care

~

To write of lies is to confess

To write of death is just a guess

To write of nothing is no life at all

To write is to write is a writer’s call

Time Shared

Dutifully wound when I rise each and every day.
Staring at my watch I see the time’s ticking away.
The band now snugger as the weight begins to rise.
Its numbers memorized unseen through aging eyes.
~
Wear’s now apparent, shimmer gone from its case.
Distress now etched forever on a once smooth face.
Hours once familiar now simply shades of grays.
Precision now is lacking in this twilight phase.
~
With each wind a moment gone, a moment less to see,
this time we spend on time are moments not to be.
I know the day’s coming when the spring loses its twist.
But til then, I’m sure, today lives upon my wrist.

Switching On

Sure to be a better day,
changes planned and underway.
Empty space now filled with life.
Fulfillment felt when no strife.
~
Smiling faces greet each dawn.
Kisses next, for to each we’re drawn.
Nothing’s hidden with mutual love,
between the sheets or above.
~
Chapters end and a new begins,
mourning faces again to grin.
With every day there’s a night,
our forever tomorrow’s forever bright.

Indecision

I think I have an issue and it’s been a while.
But I’ll be back soon to help you all smile.
I need some time off but I’ll be taking notes.
Maybe I’ll shoot some snaps or study ancient quotes.
~
I might write a tale of a dragon and a knight.
But they’ll be best friends and never ever fight.
Perhaps I’ll pen an essay of all the worlds’ ills.
Better yet, pornography that might pay the bills.
~
The choices are seemingly endless but I can’t decide.
I’ve dove into my brain cells searching far and wide.
It’s a dark and squishy place where the palette dwells.
It’s connected to the heart by strings, whistles and bells.
~
Delving ever deeper ideas come into view.
Words drip from my head, on the page they’re spew.
Their order or direction makes no sense to me.
Then my eyes begin to close and the clarity I see.
~
The outside world’s distracting, as you are aware.
If there is just one thing, that’s the one we share.
I think I’m waking up now; it must be time to go.
But when I write again I’ll probably let you know.

All in the Frame

Yesterday I felt abstract.
But the picture’s still intact.
Colors and shapes are in line.
But the edges are all mine.
~
The final piece isn’t always neat.
Things get trimmed or to delete.
But when it’s shaded no one knows.
We choose if it’s dull or glows.
~
Though life’s mistakes we cannot hide.
It’s sink or swim to ride the tide.
Life’s ever changing each day begun.
Unlike the seascape, either fog or sun.

Summer’s Lost

Spring is nearly over and summer’s almost here.
The beach we’ll soon visit but don’t forget your gear.
There’s sunscreen for your skin and a hat for your head.
And don’t forget the mask to hide the look of dread.
~
You’ll need a little lunch and extra water too.
Bring toys for the kids so they’ve something to do.
Go home and disinfect all the things you’ve brought.
Then long hot showers so no bugs are caught.
~
Relax a bit; go to bed and dream of doing more.
But wait at least two weeks just to feel sure.
The summer’s short and soon it will be done.
Let’s hope by the fall we’ll have a bit more fun.

Glad Sad

I haven’t written much of late, my brain has been askew.
I search the news constantly seeking something new.
The summer is upon us and the birds sing with glee.
I’m not sure if they’re happy or just teasing you and me.
~
While we were trapped inside the wildlife had its way.
But soon we’ll be back out and ruin their perfect day.
The roads were nearly empty with few planes overhead.
The plants bloomed on schedule and the animals all well fed.
~
Their air was a bit cleaner and the noise was nearly nil.
And while they frolicked peacefully we tested our will.
This poem is nearly over as I watch the cars pass by.
I’m glad we’re almost normal now but for the animals I will cry.

Pandemonium

Our world today’s a different place than a year ago.
We could all walk our main streets, eat and see a show.
We could drive our cars across state lines and return when we choose.
Now we’re quarantined with two more weeks to lose.
~
We could go to stores, say hello and smile at all we see.
The things we took for granted when we were more free.
Now we’ve protests and riots in cities across this land.
Injustice lit the bomb now where we all stand.
~
The summer months are coming and temperature’s sure to rise.
It’s time to wipe the sweat from our brows and open our weary eyes.
Tomorrows may appear the likes we’ve never seen.
But we’re going to share this world; good, bad or in-between.
~
A perfect storm is underway, though perfect it can’t be.
The year is now half over and in the end it will still be we.
We’ve pandemic and pandemonium but both will surely end.
And with 2020 as hindsight our past we must amend.

Novel Times

Days are getting longer, patience growing thin.
Optimism’s waning and confusion’s setting in.
The world is topsy-turvy, at times looking gray.
The blues are getting deeper, shaded every day.
~
A pandemic is upon us, direction is unsure.
We sit on pins and needles bleeding for a cure.
We’ve masks in the market, sanitizers in the car.
Gas at least is cheap. But I’m afraid to go too far.
~
What will be the normal when odd times are behind?
Will we be more friendly or simply more unkind?
I’d like to be a rebel and make up my own laws.
But we’re all in this together, routines now on pause.
~
With leadership sorely lacking and conspiracies on the news,
our lives are changed forever regardless of our views.
With distance we will live for the future that is seen.
But tomorrows will arise closing gaps between.
~
We humans are survivors, our brains lead the way.
But time will write our story and we’ve little say.
With the pages that we’ve bound created from within.
Our chapter, long or short, will tell us if we win.

Freedom or Choice

I woke today and the world was new.
What was normal is now askew.
Trapped in the house for weeks on end,
I’ve borrowed time but none to lend.
~
Rules have changed but habits not.
A little space is now a lot.
Smiles once shared now go missing.
Waves are fine, but please, no kissing.
~
Looking out; cars drive by.
Looking up; I see blue sky.
Looking down; I see two feet.
Looking in; I fear the street.
~
Tensions eased but not its force.
I need escape but not remorse.
Masks mask the pressure we face.
Hopefully patience wins this race.
~
The time will come when now is past.
That day’s coming, I hope I last.
But to be sure I’ll just stay home.
Perhaps tomorrow again I’ll roam.

Nothing New

Nothing new to report,
there’s still no reason to cavort.
Each day passing feels the same.
Surviving another is the aim.
~
This time inside is wearing thin,
I need some sunshine on my skin.
But like all things this too will pass,
soon we’ll roll in lush green grass.
~
I miss the birds singing in the trees,
my mind now wonders to the open seas.
But I’m not here to just complain,
we’re both well and mostly sane.
~
Happily we’re bound to the end,
for each a lover and a friend.
We gaze into the starlit night.
And tell each other everything’s alright.

Peccadillo

Internet addiction comes in many forms.
Some quite explicit but most fit the norms.
My own peccadillo doesn’t seem so very bad.
It often makes me happy and rarely makes me sad.
~
I fantasize of beauty, this I will admit.
I love shape and form with a dash of wit.
Though some look unnatural with parts all askew,
their faces slapped together are seemingly taboo.
~
Pages scroll before my eyes as I stare in awe.
Wasted time’s a problem but not against the law.
Ads fill my mailbox, an embarrassment to see.
Each has a pitch but nothing’s ever free.
~
Though I’ve spent no money or caught some disease,
my constant oohs and aahs can cause some unease.
I may have my issues but certainly I’m no louse.
I’m just very anal looking for a house.
