Abode Mode Ode

Decisions are made every day.
Stuff gets done just that way.
Leaving a home’s a difficult call.
Finding another is always a haul.
~
Choices are many but few fit the bill.
But we’ll find the one, I know we will.
Something that’s not too small or too big.
And a nice little place for kids to dig.
~
The woods will be great but at least a few trees,
with a spot for flowers for the birds and bees.
Neighbors OK but none is best.
I’m not anti-social but can be a pest.
~
Now thoughts to be thunk and options weighed,
calculations conjured forging a grade.
Results considered but one thing’s for sure.
In love we’ll venture, anywhere secure.

Time

Time’s now free ahead but paths now less long.
Choices now still many but chances fewer to be wrong.
Though wrong turns will inevitably crash,
the time is now for another splash.
~
Playing it safe will always be good.
And being reckless we never should.
Should I sit quietly and wither happily away?
Or awake with zeal to conquer the day?
~
Questions are hard and answers are cheap.
Actions we’ve made are what we’ll keep.
But time will come when time won’t matter.
We’ll lay alone, our bodies in tatter.
~
Our minds will wander to what was known.
Our eyes will close to see we’re grown.
Points beyond are for us to decide.
The end’s the same, but for the ride.

Made Up Fiction

I think I feel a story coming on.
I’ll need a character, I’ll call him John.
And of course he’ll meet a girl.
I guess I’ll just name her Shirl.
~
I only did that for the rhyme.
But I’ll try a little harder next time.
The pair will meet on a lonely street.
John will ask where there’s a place to eat.
~
As luck would have Shirl’s on her way.
They ate, talked and laughed the rest of the day.
The sun long set and the check long paid.
The time was now for a plan to be made.
~
John thought to himself, what should I do?
His reasons for reservation are more than a few.
Shirl too was thinking exactly the same.
When the pieces are alike it’s no longer a game.
~
The conversation faded and they drifted apart.
Was it the fear of the end or of the start?
I wish this tale had a happier end.
But then again it’s all just pretend.

Dig It

Sitting in silence alone with my thought,
thinking of time when quiet’s sought.
But time it seems does not align,
to my plans or grand design.
~
Intersections come to bear,
a train of thought gets us there.
Whistles and bells are sure to please,
with some steam we’ll never freeze.
~
We’ll shovel shit to eat some bread.
Or dig ever deeper into our head.
Pain’s always felt to reach the goal.
The track we choose carries our soul.
~
I play with words cos it’s fun.
And when I’m hollow, I’ll be done.

Pointlessnessness

There’s a change in the air,
its felt everywhere.
Will it be warmth or an icy blow?
Outside’s to venture to ever know.
~
The future nears,
with future fears.
The past’s a guide,
or where to hide.
~
Scrambled thoughts shaped in rhyme,
shadows mask the light of time.
Moments killed, perspective’s born,
clearly focused or forever torn.
~
Doors lock, window’s seen,
vistas vary with a lean.
Steps taken never still,
ups and downs, want and will.
~
At a point all paths meet,
minds move not feet.
Hearts feel, hands express,
lips promise; life’s a guess.

Moments Monumental

With each day we do learn,
life is more than we yearn.
Responsibilities never end,
more to share and to lend.
~
We give and take for others sake,
returns in kind for us to make.
Care is given when received.
Truth abounds when not deceived.
~
Time propels, weights constrain,
with each second the past we gain.
Hearts and minds of equal measure,
balance stacked for us to treasure.
~
Skies brighten and again to dim.
Stars don’t shine on a whim.
Thinking love, feeling wise,
tomorrow’s I hear are before our eyes.

Uncharted Waters

dsc_0055.jpg

Where a river meets a bay,
a quaint sheltered village lay.
Ships of yore still ply the docks.
A tiny lighthouse warns of rocks.

Haunting sounds linger on the breeze.
Shanties of old still to please.
Times bygone we’ve all to explore.
The past opens today’s unknown door.

Nights brighter compared to the then.
Our days shorter way back when.
Yesterday’s preserve tomorrows map.
Horizons calm or a trap.

Forecasting a Past

I’m too old to be a rock star,
too young to drive a big car.
With a Bugs Bunny brain and body of Fudd,
both barrels blaze, half’s a dud.

In my high fidelity cartoon I animate,
pages fanned, notes came late.
Rhythm’s slowed, meter’s now feet,
when the song remains the same chapter’s complete.

Yet I’ve albums to fill and records to break,
while my quill gently weeps for time I ache.

Morning (non-Haiku) Triku – Pearls of Wisdom

~

That Stinks

If the world were my

oyster, I’d be shucked, since I

don’t enjoy seafood.

~

Shaping Reality

Pearls true round seldom found,

they are but nature’s waste.

More are found truer round,

when man made of cheaper paste.

~

Appraising Tomorrow

Diamond’s when new sell quite a few.

Yet these gems of old are barely sold.

Sharing

~

People that yell have nothing to say.

People who yawn sleep all day.

People who sniff also smell.

Preachers of lies go to hell.

`

Thieves take for their greed.

The meek give when in need.

The globe’s split by distant light.

Half is day. Half is night.

`

Half is X. Half is Y.

Thunder booms in forever sky.

Drowning reason with buoyant screams.

Pushed and pulled to all extremes.

`

Hiding behind a glass veneer.

The mirror see’s we all don’t share.

But share we must our only place.

For life’s reflection, not a race.

`

The End

Sck081714

Untamable

~

Near two centuries standing tall

Perched upon its foundation wall

Stone and rock stacked one at a time

Cracks are filled with mortar and lime

.

Plantings and pruning’s since time’s begun

Nature’s matured, the house and it one

Repairs are always but never to date

A new one’s found just of late

.

It seems there’s a door that escaped my gaze

It’s probably been there for days and days

It welcomed a visitor though I not aware

There’s plenty of room but I’d rather not share

.

A bed was found of rags and fleece

A trap was set for catch and release

The morning came and the trap’s shut tight

Catching the culprit that roams in the night

.

The walk was had on path well worn

Evicting another, my heart is torn

Bound in plastic to hide from the eye

Soon they’ll welcome the bright blue sky

.

With a careful flick and gentle tap

Out popped an alien from its trap

Oh what to do, Oh what to do

The mouse I caught is a shrew

.

Research was done, panic’s at rest

Contemplations had of what will be best

Plans conceived to search for the door

Or wait for winter when the problem’s no more

In Periphery

~

Time’s gone before we see

the entirety of periphery.

Viewing life from afar

speeding past in our car.

.

Vistas ever change

in the given range.

Moving pictures pass

rainbows through the glass.

.

Spreading very thin

the less is seen within.

Edges all around

holding sight and sound.

.

Reflections never last

the future comes to fast.

Viewing life from afar

all’s left is the scar.

Outside the Box

~

Kings rule and Bishops herd

Knightly armor is absurd

Queens both hated and are dear

The Rooks rightly left to take up the rear

*

Conned into servitude

Rewarded with an attitude

To compensate and to blame

A pawn is pushed in the game

*

Each maintains their special place

Unless a better takes their space

And within these lines opinions abound

While ignoring the fact the table is round
