Day 7

Wow, what a scare I had,
cat’s on the stairs and Fred is mad.
Seems the cat was planning her attack,
so I moved the cage and scratched her back.
~
That was close, way too close for me.
The worst possible scenario I did see;
the cat tore up and the bird flew away.
Fortunately a story I’ve no need to convey.
~
So all’s well and I’ve something to write about.
This recent writer’s block leaves me with doubt.
But I’m on vacation, no worries yet.
When I go back to work, then I’ll sweat.

Day 6

I just got a parrot whose name is Fred.
Though not to worry, no one’s dead.
I’m bird-sitting, I guess you could say.
We’ll sit together for a week and a day.
~
He doesn’t say much, that’s just fine,
I’d teach him some words, but he’s not mine.
He taunts the cats while perched in the hall.
If I opened the cage they’d all have a ball.
~
There’d be feathers all over I’d have to clean.
But I’m on vacation, don’t need a scene.
So far, all’s well, I’ll let you know.
Whoa, a screech, I gotta go!!!

Day 2

Day two’s now well underway,
I’ve nothing to write, nothing to say.
But I’m happy and that’s always OK,
couldn’t ask for a prettier day.
~
So I’ll just ponder, won’t read the news,
I’d rather be dull than shine with the blues.
It’s time to reflect on all of life’s hues.
It’s time to relax, I’ve paid my dues.
~
But I’ll do something, which goes without saying,
I am getting older, my hair now graying.
I’ve a world to inspire, no time for delaying,
just not today, after all I’m vay-kay-ing.

Day 1

Vacation’s finally here,
now what am I to do.
I’d love to take a trip,
but the dollars are too few.
~
I could fix my house,
but that sounds like work.
I could let it all fall down,
but then I’d be a jerk.
~
I could write a happy poem,
maybe it’ll be good.
I’ll share it with my friends,
as I know I should.
~
I did get up early;
I’d hate to waste the time.
So I guess it’s time to start,
start my first vacation rhyme.

Better Than Nothing

My thinking cap has gone astray.
And I, bewildered another day.
But, at least no work, my day is free.
Perhaps today a poem’s to be.
~
I try to write whenever I can,
was just a child when that began.
Sometimes it flows without a stop.
Then years will pass and all a flop.
~
The flop phase now is where I’m at.
But I’ll keep trying and that is that.
The day’s still young and I’ve still time.
Let’s all hope for a better rhyme.

Hats Off to Summer

On this morning’s walk

while enjoying the breeze

I passed by a garden

and started to sneeze

~

I think my thinking cap

Must have blown away

I’ve searched frantically

all morning and day

~

Without my cap

my thought’s gone astray

The pretty blue sky

has now turned to gray

~

I tried an umbrella

that didn’t work

I wore a helmet

but felt like a jerk

~

Without my cap

my writing will end

I guess today

I’ll have to pretend

In Time

Minutes feel like hours,
the hours seem like days.
Time is at a standstill,
awaiting my lover’s gaze.
~
Her scent I can recall,
her face I clearly see.
My heart beats a little faster,
when thinking of her with me.
~
My arms are meant to hold her,
our lips were meant to touch.
Our words are always shared,
when saying “I love you so much”

Perspective

The day was long, the night short.
Arms embrace for support.
Work was taxing and taxes due.
Trinkets bought but just a few.
~
Pillows help soften the blow.
Blankets warm from head to toe.
Legs intertwined and bodies askew,
it’s fun to try something new.
~
Perspectives change in new light,
loving eyes improve our sight.
Peaceful slumber finds its way,
the perfect end to an imperfect day.

The Half Full Hourglass

The night was black and eerily still,
sensations naught but for the chill.
The fog then quickly settles in.
It is death but for the din.
~
With nowhere left to run or go.
A silence welcomes from far below.
Or follow the sounds of mournful screams,
awakened to a life of no one’s dreams.
~
Nightmares seep with a shuttered mind.
Yet sweetly we rest when freedom we find.
Tomorrows beat within our hearts.
Open eyes see bright, new starts.
~
But it is sleep where we all do dwell,
our futures told of heaven and hell.
We’ll meet the many never to know.
Then in a blink it’s the end of our show.
~
When we wake a dimension’s gone.
Feeling flat upward we’re drawn.
We rise to heights imagined by one.
The world awaits, our day begun
~
Tread the paths, both waning and worn.
Use your sharpness when you’re torn.
And sleep will guide us to our core.
But time awake always one third more.

Why?

Hogarth_fighting2

We work by day and dream at night.
In between we live and fight.
We fight for peace and for love.
We fight to live, we push and shove.

Sometimes we give, sometime we break.
We sometime take more than we make.
We fight for much and for less.
We fight for time to fight off stress.

We’ve fought for us and for them.
We fought for merit and to condemn.
We fight the ills that lurk within.
We fight our demons so we may win.

Yet battles won are never done.
And battles lost are never one.
But still we fight until at last we die.
We’ll fight for breath to at last ask why.

The Poem of Ours

Our hearts beat ever louder,
yet our minds at total ease.
We share a common wish,
for each other we will please.
~
Our dream’s now fulfilled,
or we’ve yet to wake.
Our love grows ever stronger,
with every breath we take.
~
Our life’s now complete,
the puzzle now is done.
Our pieces fit together,
our time has now begun.
~
Our arms reach out to hold,
our lips find their way.
Our eyes see only one,
and all’s a sunny day.

Dopplegingerjibberishargh!

.
Time changes a changing day.
A change of heart just beats away.
Respect and admiration flow gleefully.
Desires swell exponentially.

Courage grows when feet should run.
Dreams await when words be fun.
With no eyes, face or voice to engage,
letters askew from heart, hand to page.

Lives texted is now the rage
Costumes change when word’s the stage.
Act’s order confused when time’s a game.
This world virtual is never the same.

Dreaming Reality

moonrise

I woke today all askew.
Got up late but dreamt of you.
Our day was perfect, evening grand.
We watched the sunset hand in hand.
~
The moon rose and stars shined bright.
There could never be a better night.
Then a bell rang, my dream was done.
But I’ll see you soon for some real fun.

Rainbows and Unicorns

Today I know not what to do.
So I think I’ll try something new.
I’ll color a poem with skies so bright,
with stars that twinkle every night.
~
There’ll be no wars or no hate.
Conflicts solved with just debate.
There’ll be no clocks to dictate time.
There’ll be no violence or any crime.
~
There’ll be no pollution or climate change.
All will be loved, there’ll be no strange.
Peace will be our common goal.
Joy we’ll share from our soul.
~
There’ll be no hunger or disease.
Children will play as they please.
Crayons will be free for everyone.
So let’s get a box and start the fun.

Shadow Slaying Sunlight

.

When the dark of night grows darker by day

And the screams in your head won’t go away

When the sun comes out it burns your skin

Parched of voice sound’s trapped within

~

When the mind is blank, yet full of thought

Dreams of horrors my sleep is fraught

Depths I’ll fall until I’m caught

By the arms of demons, forever sought

~

Where shadows frolic on the wall

Till an open window hides them all

Breezes blow sucking breath

When eyes open cheating death

This, That and the Other

Morning, noon or night,
I have my guiding light.
Never to diminish,
she’s always shining bright.
~
Hot, cold and in-between,
temperatures rise when she’s seen.
Her vision’s always warming,
she is my beautiful queen.
~
Fast, slow or standing still,
always there to share goodwill.
Her movements make me quiver,
she’s my daily thrill.
~
Here, there and everywhere,
my troubles all disappear.
The future’s now in sight,
our love is crystal clear.

Untitled

I warn you now, do not read this.
There are no verses of enlightened bliss.
There’s not a word you would ever miss.
It’s but a passage as I reminisce.
~
Parts are true, some maybe not.
Time has fogged and some forgot.
Its pages of perspective yet to have a plot,
it’s yet to have an end or a juggernaut.
~
To a readers’ mind it’s a fictional brew.
And like yours parts too are true.
Our characters blended to shade our hue.
Our morals sculpted to fit our view.
~
Dreams are added, we all share those.
They’re a third of our life no one knows.
They’re also the guide that shapes and grows.
Our time awake, the dreaming then shows.
~
Memories linger and lessons remain.
There’s good and bad but none to regain.
Forwards the choice regardless the brain,
the author’s irrelevant; we’ve all had our pain.
~
If you’ve read this far just wait and see.
Our stories are similar, I think you’ll agree.
Our life is lived with hopes to be free.
And the ending’s the same for you and me.
