Maybe

Though I hope not permanent,
I’ve chosen to experiment.
A change in course is needed,
or soon to be defeated.
~
Continued escape or actual rest,
sleep will be my ultimate test.
Nights a daze and days are night.
Wake must I to dream what’s right.
~
Torn by a future unknown,
and times gone now to own,
reflections of the past have all been seen.
Death looms, the now in between.
~
Better days will come with the bad.
Some day’s happy, others sad.
Success or failure is for us to see.
Probing’s always costly but results free.

Sonnet Undone

Take from me this simple band of gold,
walk with me while we both grow old.
Hand in hand our souls inline,
I’ll be yours and you’ll be mine.

In your eyes time does melt,
returning to where love first felt.
Journey’s skyward of life excelled,
when two is one heart beats meld.

Tears and hugs and laughter shared,
stealing kisses whenever dared.
Fate and luck met at the Last Call,
boundless futures in a crystal ball.

A blues band played, forgotten ironically.
Memories are golden because nothing’s free.

Dream Love

Only dreamers live the life they choice.
Only gamblers have a life to lose.
With every word there’s a cost.
With every second a second’s lost.
~
Every child has a dream to live.
Every parent has a life to give.
And for every wish there’s a smile.
But only love makes it all worthwhile.

Poultry Dreams

In the name of man’s greed and chicken feed,
a farmer hatched his scheme to succeed.
He’d create a chicken with numerous wings.
Then, he too, could soar with the like’s kings.
~
Wings sell well but they sell way too cheap.
But if he had more the more he would reap.
He mortgaged his house and sold his truck.
He kept his old dog who brought him luck.
~
His wife kicked him out to sleep in the hay.
The breeding was started the very next day.
Time quickly passed and soon it was a year.
Most thought him a fool, although sincere.
~
With a cock-a-doodle-do he rose with the sun.
The day would be his, full of pride, joy and fun.
He sprinted to the house to fetch his ex-wife,
who had recently remarried to start a new life.
~
They walked to the barn, after some yelling.
The closer they got the more they were smelling.
With the odor intense, the farmer opened the door.
And with one big swoosh his hopes were no more.
~
His most wonderous chickens all flew the coop.
And the poor farmer left with only their poop.
The lesson of course being evolution’s not a race.
And those who disbelieve get egg on their face.

Conflux

Tomorrow’s here and faraway.
Yesterday’s done yet here to stay.
Life, it seems, seems to move on,
seemingly endless until it’s gone.
~
Forward we tread to catch the wave,
treading water into the grave.
Thoughts consumed, distraction prevails.
Future plans are always heads or tails.
~
Missteps many, disappointments abound.
A fool sought is easily found.
But today is now and now I know.
Today’s the day I must grow.
~
Try I must to try much more.
Life’s our purpose not a chore.
The fool I’ll be if not to persist.
Get with the flow or the flow gets missed.

Unveiled

On a canvas our lives are drawn,
born of purity, thrust into dawn.
Colors seduce, every stroke another day,
our every action a shade of gray.
~
Hardships endured many tears ago,
the pain forgotten, losses to forever show.
With each scar we’re sculpted, our hands bear the tools.
Minds write the stories of masters and fools.
~
Covers ever changing as we choose,
pages between paid our dues.
Lines filled in, some hues gone astray.
Upon our death the frame we’ll display.

Blooming

~*~
Familiar ground or faraway lands,
there’s sunset’s together holding hands.
Then warm embraces when times seem right,
till the days last kiss with every goodnight.

Our times of joy always more joyful,
while times of sloth simply delightful.
We’ll share our laughter and our sorrows.
We’ll delight in our today’s and tomorrows.

We can do and be what we both dream.
We’ll build new lives as none have seen.
Though the formula needed I do not know.
Yet when seeds planted time does grow.

Seconds

Awaiting the sunrise,
starlight fills sleepy eyes,
coffee’s brewing brighter skies.
~
I feel today’s a happy day.
Clearing is the persistent gray.
And spring’s finally on its way.
~
Summer’s next, heart’s to thaw.
The beats of two inspire with awe.
Sunset’s as one an unimagined draw.
~
With a change of hue fall we’ll thirst,
a future’s quenched well-rehearsed.
But I think I need my second cup first.

Rest in Fleece

One more month and spring is here.
When freezing to death’s no longer a fear.
We’ll pack our sweaters, hats and coats.
Soon the bay will fill with boats.
~
Flowers will bloom and temps will rise.
Trees will green before longing eyes.
Days get longer, nights a bit cool.
But now we wait, because time’s cruel.
~
I don’t hate winter or the cold.
But those months are growing old.
I do like autumn but spring is still best.
So for one more month I’ll just rest.

To Plus To

To like and love, to lust and trust,
formula’s clear and all’s a must.
Time teaches all to grow.
Seasons season all we know.
.
Negatives dwelt, positives melt.
Negatives dealt, positives felt.
The past a lesson, learned or not.
Good’s great when bad forgot.
.
Hearts, minds and souls align.
Eyes see all is truly fine.
Ears hear all that’s dear.
Arms ready for hugs to share.
.
Smiles glow and worries fade.
Kisses await and warmth made.
Bells ring to end and wake.
Lesson done when a pair we make.

Getting High

I like to write lots of stuff but I don’t know why.
And I’ll probably keep doing it until the day I die.
I write a little something almost every day,
but if I never make a dime that’s still OK.
~
I wake up early everyday right around sunrise.
I guzzle morning coffee to open up my eyes.
And when the kitchen’s lit up bright,
out comes my notebook then I start to write.
~
I never know where I’ll go or if I’ll go at all.
There’s a chance I’ll draw a blank but that chance is small.
Pages now fill my desk and the pile’s getting high.
But that’s a poem for another day, so for now goodbye.

Little Dudes in my Head

Inward adventures in a cavernous space

Peeking through slits at upside-down space

Bouncing about in a big pile of goo

Any’s too many but none’s too few

~

I can never decide what I should say

I think the little dudes want it that way

They scurry about, finding things I forgot

At times they hide things, they should have not

~

Sometime they edit, sometimes they write

They’re always angry when I turn off the light

Sometimes they’re gone for weeks or more

When they return they’ve much to explore

~

Seldom if ever a good or kind word

I keep my mouth shut so they’re not heard

I scream in a whisper, they lull with a shout

They cause great sorrow but alone I’m without

~

Who’s good or bad is never quite clear

Repercussions of choice is what I fear

A constant tug-of-war, each has a side

I’m in the middle with nowhere to hide

~

Their kicking and screaming can be real bad

But more loyal friends I’ve never had

We all share the pain, though I the blame

We share a laugh that’s never the same

~

It could be worse, or so I’ve been told

I guess I’ll decide when we’re all old

Mindless Magnification

Sit with me or foe be you
Or stand will I and we be two
Thrust first if it be best
Twist your blade in my chest

`

Who shall be, shall be the test
Thou who not is soon to rest
I care not for what you do
I will win yet so may you

`

To test the will of a giant
Remembered always as defiant
Giants’ losers as always they be
Taking the time from you and me

`

Be this giant if you must
I’m at peace, you can trust
Eye to eye, perspective’s grand
I bear boulders, your grains of sand

`

Stomp, splatter, hurl or squish
Shortened wicks hasten a wish
Wind won’t silence, only time
Death lives on in a world sublime

`

Stand shall I – face to feet
Choice be yours, ends we’ll greet
Choice be quick, I’ve ends to meet
Choice be mine, please take a seat.

Plan B

I’m writing a poem with a camera obscurer

Alone in the dark with my pen and a mirror

I’ll copy all the words, line for line

Just shapes through a lens, better than mine

 ~

At the glass’s edge all becomes clear

Words arranged, scribed without fear

Reflections honest, colors vivid and true

Time imagined – visions of you

 ~

By hearth embraced for evermore

Framed with care, hung by the door

Shadows of day will come and go

Our depth’s captured, forever aglow

Twas the Ale

Twas a fable yet scribed I chanced on a trail

Whilst adjusting lapels on my shiny chain-mail

Running behind by fast falling hail

When caught by surprise by a soon too late snail

Rushing past for the tour of a mighty blue whale

A little boy followed, arms all a flail

Yelling and screaming and waving a pail

Fearing for life, I ratted out the snail

Thus rightly rewarded a tasty round quail

I plucked a plume, it barked a wail

I flew to the pub and grabbed me an ale

I asked of bread, it answered stale

I ordered steak and was given kale

Complained to a waiter who proceeded to rail

Then I was bounced out, back onto the trail

Went in head first and came out on my tail

Now bumps and bruises read like braille

Poking and prodding will always fail

The highs and lows of a musical scale

Whilst the notes remaining  …  twas this tale
