Saturday Morning Toons

A quiet calm’s befallen,
the morning sky’s blue.
A bit of a chill’s in the air,
life feels brand new.
~
Music fills my head,
my body starts to sway.
Tribulation’s now are past,
the future starts today.
~
The groove’s now returning,
today’s looking bright.
Every step becomes a dance,
toe to toe all night.
~
Tomorrow is another day,
yet to be a song.
But with love most duly noted,
the laughter will be strong.

One Counts, Two Adds

I rose today and the sky was blue.
I count my blessings; I know I’ve a few.
The love of another is by my side.
She’ll wake soon to a smile wide.
~
Our health is good and optimism’s high.
Our family’s well, no need to cry.
We’ll share our morning as we always do.
We’ll sip our coffees and maybe two.
~
Our time together is as never before.
Our bond grows stronger awaiting a cure.
We’ve music and art to fill our head.
We’ve cuddling and chatting when in bed.
~
We’ve some windows to see this world green.
We’ve books galore for the time between.
We watch the news and shed our tears.
We’ll hold each other to ease our fears.
~
We’ll laugh a little when it feels right.
We’ll end our day with a kiss goodnight.
The world’s now different outside our door,
though life goes on much as before.
~
The needs of others we’ll not neglect.
We’ll do our part to not infect.
Together as one or two or all,
our blessings shared we’ll rise to the call.

Literally Free

Today’s my day.
Maybe yours as well.
It may not be heaven,
but it sure ain’t hell.
~
There’s a chill in the air.
The sky’s a cold gray.
It’s my only day off.
But there’s rain all day.
~
That’s O.K. my coffee’s hot.
And my boots are dry.
Adventures are waiting.
And I’m gonna try.
~
My pockets are empty.
And so’s my old car.
I guess I’ll be walking.
I don’t need to go far.
~
So, it’s off to the library,
that’s always fun.
Good friends await.
And our adventure’s begun.

Resolute

My buttocks hurt and my knuckles crack.
What drives me forward can drag me back.
My eyes are tired and my head is sore.
My hands are cramped, I can write no more.
~
My pages are filled with useless stuff.
And one more verse is never enough.
Pencils grow dull as does my brain.
But each day silent leaves a stain.
~
Though deep down I know the truth.
The haunt persists from my youth.
I’ve something to say, but what is unclear.
Answers will come but not this year.
~
A resolution needed this time around.
Try harder I must for I am bound.
The calendar says I’m almost there.
Glasses raised a toast we’ll share.
~
A new day begins with much to do.
Sunnier thoughts will eclipse the blue.
A cushion I’ll buy for my favorite chair.
Words will flow like a breath of fresh air.
~
Volumes will fill with the funniest of lines.
A chapter reserved for my sweet valentines.
I’ll rise from sleep as each day’s the first.
I’ll sip my coffee then quench my thirst.
~
Reflecting upon the time long past,
how the future sneaks up too fast.
And if nothing to leave advice I can give.
“Live out your dreams and a dream you shall live.”

Seconds

Awaiting the sunrise,
starlight fills sleepy eyes,
coffee’s brewing brighter skies.
~
I feel today’s a happy day.
Clearing is the persistent gray.
And spring’s finally on its way.
~
Summer’s next, heart’s to thaw.
The beats of two inspire with awe.
Sunset’s as one an unimagined draw.
~
With a change of hue fall we’ll thirst,
a future’s quenched well-rehearsed.
But I think I need my second cup first.

I See

The weekend is upon us,
it’s the first one of the year.
Resolutions will be tested,
will you be sincere?
~
I for one make no promises,
I wish not to lie.
I don’t want to worry or fail,
then to question why.
~
Though just another New Year,
a milestone’s felt.
Hindsight looms large,
pondering what’s to be dealt.
~
I could use improvement,
quite a lot indeed.
Fortunately love’s been found,
fulfilling every need.
~
But if a resolution were made,
I’d make it perfectly clear.
I’d set my sights on positive visions,
since twenty twenty’s here.

Awake

As a child I was longing to see;
those glorious times ahead of me.
The ocean called as did the stars.
Riches I’d have and fancy cars.
~
I’d marry a princess, have lots of kids.
I’ll do all the things that mom forbids.
I’d stay up late and eat lots of sweets.
I’ll sleep till noon on soft flannel sheets.
~
Teen years came, dreams went astray.
I dreaded school and my life in every way.
But off I trudged through rain and snow.
Where I was going I didn’t know.
~
Hair grew long and patience grew thin.
Trouble was found, most from within.
The rage was waning by senior year.
My future was waiting tied to a pier.
~
Adventures were had though not for long.
I did some things I knew were wrong.
The hammer fell then back on the street.
Many days traveled to get home and eat.
~
Dad was displeased, mom’s not surprised.
It was about my time to get civilized.
I rode the bus to work at the mill.
The paychecks earned were never to thrill.
~
My life, I thought, was now just a waste.
Decision made poorly and with great haste.
Dreams of the past seemed now far away.
Would the rest of my life be like today?
~
Options getting fewer, debts soon to grow.
Choices are but two, the time’s now to go.
At that very instant dreams came back in view.
As learning from the past will awaken you.

Morning Triku #67 – Non-Optimal Optimism

Headlights –

.

Optimism is:

Writing an end to darkness

When there’s no bright side

*

.

Un-Free Times –

.

When do poets sell?

When all my time’s spent writing

Or thinking I can’t

*

.

Scientific Optimism –

.

Nature’s law shared in

Physics and psychology

Is that all things bounce

Better Than Nothing

My thinking cap has gone astray.
And I, bewildered another day.
But, at least no work, my day is free.
Perhaps today a poem’s to be.
~
I try to write whenever I can,
was just a child when that began.
Sometimes it flows without a stop.
Then years will pass and all a flop.
~
The flop phase now is where I’m at.
But I’ll keep trying and that is that.
The day’s still young and I’ve still time.
Let’s all hope for a better rhyme.

The Half Full Hourglass

The night was black and eerily still,
sensations naught but for the chill.
The fog then quickly settles in.
It is death but for the din.
~
With nowhere left to run or go.
A silence welcomes from far below.
Or follow the sounds of mournful screams,
awakened to a life of no one’s dreams.
~
Nightmares seep with a shuttered mind.
Yet sweetly we rest when freedom we find.
Tomorrows beat within our hearts.
Open eyes see bright, new starts.
~
But it is sleep where we all do dwell,
our futures told of heaven and hell.
We’ll meet the many never to know.
Then in a blink it’s the end of our show.
~
When we wake a dimension’s gone.
Feeling flat upward we’re drawn.
We rise to heights imagined by one.
The world awaits, our day begun
~
Tread the paths, both waning and worn.
Use your sharpness when you’re torn.
And sleep will guide us to our core.
But time awake always one third more.

Weathering

I think I’m feeling normal today,
or at least sensing a better way.
Tomorrow will tell if it’s here to stay,
or just another shade of moody gray.
~
My mind’s mostly free of torrential doom.
My night wasn’t filled in a sleepless tomb.
Fears of the future, for now, don’t loom.
And my soul awaits the spring to bloom.
~
My spirit looks forward to another day,
when starlit nights will warm where I lay.
Sunny thoughts are melting this winter’s gloom.
And my heart’s awaking with a thunderous boom.

Built To Last

Let’s all build a castle with some turrets and a moat.
Perhaps on an island reached only in a boat.
Built with our experience, we’re heavily fortified.
Nirvana lies within, unseen from the outside.
~
Visitors are always welcome. But your journey will be long.
There is no turning back, there is no being wrong.
When the door does open, quickly do step in.
Grab a stone, climb the stairs; it’s where you will begin.
~
Harmony will fill our time and slumber will fill our needs.
Petty wants and desires found but never feeds.
With the dawn arisen, with cheers we will feast.
The nightmares now are over; we’ve tamed our daily beast.
~
Years may pass and maybe more, but your day will come.
The steps that you’ve chosen are now greater than their sum.
Rising ever higher, the sky will come into view.
The dream is nearly reached but the rest is up to you.

Beginning Ends

This week was long but Sunday’s here.
The day is cold yet I’m full of cheer.
Winter’s soon gone, warm thoughts abound.
Soon there’ll be no snow on the ground.
~
The sky is bluer and spring is in sight,
beyond the clouds there’s birds in flight.
My mind then wanders to places unknown,
to visions unseen now I’m grown.
~
Jumping in puddles and backyard swings,
we laughed at time and all silly things.
But now’s time to clear a weathered head,
a new life begins when I rise from this bed.

Blinkered

Blinked and missed the rainbow,
tripped and missed the fall.
I slid right into winter,
waited for spring to call.
~
I didn’t hear the ring,
so I put on my old snow boots.
I tiptoed out the door,
everybody’s picking fruits.
~
I check to see the time,
but I see my watch is lost.
I wish to start life over,
can’t imagine what’s the cost.
~
Forward I must go,
eyes now open wide.
I may be but half-witted,
but at least half is on my side.

Glorious Glistening Goodness

The sun has risen on a beautiful day.
Why it will be I cannot say?
But I woke at dawn and I feel great.
My house is warm and troubles can wait.
~
The coffee is hot and the music’s down low.
I won’t ponder how the future might go.
For now, all’s good, no problems in sight.
This day is bright and I see the light.

Kissing Off the Old Year

An old year fades and a new one shines.
The path is clear, follow the signs.
Hearts will lead where we’re to go.
Minds remind what we’ve to know.
~
Eyes will see our destinations ahead.
Ears will hear what’s always been said.
Bodies will change as we all age.
Our lives will turn another page.
~
Resolutions are made, some are kept.
While those forgotten we’ll accept.
Our time’s running out, best to prepare,
midnight’s soon and we’ve kisses to share.

Cold Fuzz

It’s been a month or maybe more,
it could be less but I’m not sure.
Perspective’s fuzzy, mind’s a blank,
creativity’s done and mood sank.
~
At least today I wrote a thing,
I hoped that some joy it’d bring.
I wasn’t wrong though it’s not great,
reflecting on these times of late.
~
Perhaps tomorrow will improve;
I’ll jump out of bed in the groove.
I’ll run downstairs to greet the sun,
damn this chill, let’s awake the fun.

Keeping Spirits

~~~
Nature batters, scarring far and wide.
Forgotten battles forever tied.
Man and rock bear the loss of all who’ve died.
Rugged faces change with the changing of a tide.
~
Keeping the wary from a watery hell,
a craggy post a dutiful keeper dwell.
Keeping by day his glass shined bright,
by night he keeps his flame alight.
~
Warning all comers never to near,
this beacon of virtue is only to fear.
Bravely they stand against wind and wave,
the ocean master, keeper slave.
~
Chores of many, companions none.
Sleep begins when work is done.
Ventures end before the dark.
His light stands silent awaiting spark.
~
Beyond this rock and choppy cove,
a small town lie where tales are wove.
Stories of stormy seas abound,
and faraway lands where treasure’s found.
~
In town sits a churchyard overlooking the sea.
Where the keeper visits when a calm day’s free.
Collects his needs quickly, no time for desire.
His row is long to return to his fire.
~
Scores of seasons drifted behind.
The keeper and kept, two of a kind.
Their toils unnoticed, yet seen by all.
Keeping kept the keepers call.
~
Reflections of stars upon the sea.
Infinite horizons awaiting he.
A beacon to all, his lamp not aglow.
To see the light the keep did go.
~
The town sad for their keeper unknown.
He was buried with care as one of their own.
At the edge of the churchyard lie the keep.
With eternal vistas of the light and the deep.
~
Dozens of keepers tried to keep.
All had left quickly, missing their sleep.
Stories told of the old keeper’s ghost.
A most spirited and demanding of host.
~
He rattled windows and slammed doors,
once hid away the old rowboats oars.
His steps are heard on the stairs all night,
sometimes blowing  out the lighthouse’s light.
~
On a chilly morn some years past,
a storm was brewing, approaching fast.
A hardy young sailor paddled for the light,
racing the waves ahead of the night.
~
With setting sun and drenching rain,
wind and waves pummeled, no refrain.
Shores altered with the rising tide,
The hilltop churchyard couldn’t hide.
~
The keeps remains returned to sea.
The young sailor now keeps –  happily.
And ever since that fateful day,
the old keeper’s spirit kept at bay.
Lyrically Loopy
It begins a story without an end.
It’s a tale untold but it will be penned.
There may be no heroes or villains to see.
It could be written for you or me.
~
It might be a song or poetry.
It may be undervalued but never free.
It could be too short but can’t be too long.
Perspectives vary between right and wrong.
~
While some chapters weak others will be strong.
Some may possibly rise above the throng.
Some parts will be happy, some will be sad.
There will always be both but that’s not so bad.
~
Note always the things that make you glad.
Notice the trends that aren’t just a fad.
Honest words lived you’ll need never defend.
And when the cover closes you will transcend.
